The Doctor Strange Costume With the Cloak of Levitation
The iconic Doctor Strange Costume with the Cloak of Levitation is so ingrained in the character that it's impossible he'd ever change the look. However, he does and it's not always the best.



The 1990s saw Marvel take a big gamble on the future of their characters and ended with a style that wasn't able to endure. But they did launch the first new style of Strange.


Classic Costume


Doctor Strange usually wears a dark-blue suit, a yellow sash and gloves when he is not wearing the Cloak of Levitation. This is an iconic Doctor Strange look that harkens back to the past when superheroes had to choose between the real world and the occult.


This outfit might not be one of Steve Ditko's most elegant, but it's still very powerful. The style of the tunic is characterized by contours and texture that emphasize the lines of the human body. This creates a stark contrast with the sash gloves, and sash.


This costume was updated in 1990s and featured an elaborate outfit made of gold as well as an earring necklace that featured the Eye of Agamotto. This is a more faithful representation of the character in comics, but could be improved with a new belt.



The Silver Age Costume


In the 1990s, when Marvel Comics struggled with declining sales and editors were under pressure to attract younger readers, Sorcerer supreme ditched his mysterious robes and tunics in preference to spandex. The costume did not include the Cloak of Levitation but it had a striking red and black colour scheme that instantly identified it as that of the Sorcerer of the highest order.


In the following years, Doctor Strange would wear his regular robe, and trench coat that brought out his urbanity. Strange wore this basic, but effective costume as he tried to balance his dual duties as a surgeon and wizard. It was the same look that he donned in the movie The Defenders, where Strange joined the X-Men to help mentor Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer.

Additionally, the actor wearing his outfit was required to master a variety of complicated hand gestures and spells to make it appear authentic.
