If you have employees who work in areas where they can fall from a height, you need to protect them from injury. As an employer you are legally bound under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 to minimise risks of falls and provide immediate assistance or medical attention as soon as possible.

Lone worker alarms have been designed to help employers fulfil their duty of care under these regulations, by monitoring and assisting lone workers when they are in danger, so that they can get the right medical attention they need. They are particularly useful for those who work in building sites, warehouses or other high-risk environments, where it is essential that they are able to escape without the benefit of a fellow worker.

The hermesTRX Man Down feature works silently in the background and uses a tilt-switch to detect if a radio is being placed at an unusual angle or not moving for a period of time. Panic Button If this happens, the device will emit a pre-alarm tone and will also send an alarm to the controller.

Typically the device will enter a pre-alert phase which vibrates and beeps to try and gain the lone worker’s attention before it raises the Man Down Alarm. Should the pre-alert be ignored, it will raise a full alarm.

Man Down Alarms are available in many different forms on different types of devices. Some will have a timer that will raise an alarm if an employee does not respond to the device within a set period of time. Others will have a Man Down button that will be linked to a monitoring centre and will trigger an alert when the person presses the button.
