3M's Yeast and the Mold Count Plate
The Yeast and Mold Count Plates play a significant component of the total microbial count (TYMC) that is the initial stage of the qualitative stage of bioburden testing of ingredients in pharmaceuticals, from raw materials to the final product. These plates ensure that your product is free of mesophilic fungi that are hazardous and can cause contamination and an eventual recall of your completed product.


A TYMC screen tests for the presence of mesophilic fungi taking a small amount of your product before plating the dilution on fungal growth Agar plates. The number of molds and yeasts is later determined through analyzing the results. The results help you determine on whether or how to proceed with the product to your facility.


Traditionally, the identification and enumeration process of yeasts and molds is a time-consuming five-day incubation period using traditional methods of culture. However, mzfoodtest have been developed that claim to reduce this time by a significant amount. Some of these employ the culture medium that is wrapped in fabric or plastic films. Some of them replace Petri dishes using membrane filters and others incorporate special technology that can improve colony counting.


The 3M Yeast & Mold Count Plate is a new indicator that uses an innovative technology to identify molds and yeasts faster, easier and more accurately than conventional agarose plates. The film is transparent and has blue-colored matrix, which makes it easier to read colonies. The plate also has technological advancements to prevent colonies from spreading or growing over each other and makes it easier to identify the yeasts and molds.



This completely sample-ready system eliminates the requirement for a second process of inoculation by the antibiotic tartaric acid or an antimicrobial. This system also reduces incubation by 48 hours, which allows you to monitor the process more often.


The Yeast and Mold Count Plate is compatible with various sampling techniques including surface contact direct swabbing, as well as air monitoring. It's the ideal choice for food processors who process fruits, grain and dairy items where mold and yeast contamination could be present.


The Yeast and Mold Count Plate comes in an enclosed pouch. It is recommended to keep it in a dry, cool location. After opening, the plates are required to be cleaned with procedures that are sterile and then immersed in 10% bleach solution or autoclaved prior to disposal in the garbage. The plate must be placed in the protective foil pouch once it is not required anymore. This will safeguard the plate during storage and getting rid of it.
