Lucasfilm Several official “Star Wars” social media accounts have announced that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” has become “the most-watched Disney+ Original series premiere globally to date”.
They arrived at that statement “based on hours streamed in an opening weekend,” but no actual hard figures have been released by the streamer. Third-party analytics have yet to be revealed. Zitobox
They also say that following the series premiere launch, viewership of “Star Wars” titles on Disney+ tripled in hours watched over the weekend.
The news comes as the same accounts issued a statement last night condemning vile online attacks against actress Moses Ingram who plays Inquisitor Reva Sevander (aka Third Sister).
Ingram shared on her Instagram stories several abusive online messages aimed at her which used racist language. The statement by Disney and Lucasfilm says:
“There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist. We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist.”
The launch also preceded this year’s Star Wars Celebration convention which led to multiple stories breaking over the weekend. An April 7th-10th date has been set for next year’s convention which will take place at London’s ExCeL Center.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” shifts to Wednesdays for its remaining four episodes with the third part set to debut June 1st.
