DIY Willy Wonka Costumes
Whether you are a fan of the 1971 original book adaptation starring Gene Wilder or the Tim Burton version starring Johnny Depp, there is no denying that Willy Wonka is one of the most memorable characters in fiction. His eccentric style and opulent factory are just some of the reasons why people are so fascinated by the chocolate maker.

Luckily for Halloween lovers, the character is not only a dream to dress up as but also easy to recreate. Whether you are looking to be the purple-suited chocolate factory owner himself, his oh-so-stylish employee Violet Beauregarde or her fellow Oompa Loompas, these DIY Willy Wonka costumes will have you feeling as if you entered the Chocolate Factory.

The original Willy Wonka costume was designed by Mark Thompson for the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which premiered at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 25th June 2013. It was worn by Douglas Hodge as Mr. https://www.willywonkacostume.com/ and by understudy Alex Jennings until he was replaced by Richard Dempsey on 19th May 2014 and by Alex Jennings again on 7th January 2017.

This Willy Wonka kids costume from Smiffy’s is licensed with Roald Dahl and includes trousers, jacket with waistcoat, top hat, bow tie and cane. It’s made from green stretchy material with a purple velvet feel and comes in a size to fit children up to 10 years. It’s a great choice for Halloween or for a play.

Although the movie didn’t exactly follow all of Wilder’s suggestions for the outfit, it did include a red collared button-down shirt, blue striped tie, khaki chinos and brown boots. It also added a black top hat and a shorter hat band than the original.

To complete the look, a silver walking cane is a must. You can get one from any department store or even find it in your home. A strip of patterned fabric like a silk sash or an old tie can work just as well. Just make sure that it is a little longer than your child’s head so that the bow tie isn’t too snug on his neck.

Keeping up with Kim Kardashian, Sonny Bono and the rest of the gang can be tough. That’s why it is good to know that Jonathan Cheban has stepped up his game with this year’s Halloween costumes. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star opted to dress up as Willy Wonka for George Clooney’s Casamigos Halloween party last weekend. Despite being a few steps off from the Johnny Depp version in the film, his costume is still a sweet treat.
