Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

The company continues to push boundaries with the latest technologies and craftsmanship. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear sunroof and a handcrafted Apple iPad docking station.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary in the year 2019 100 years after the marque was founded. The marque, which is owned by Volkswagen without a partner following years of dispute with BMW and BMW, had planned a series of special launches and events to celebrate the occasion. Bentley is famous for its lavish and extravagant automobiles and even keys are made to stand out. The Bentayga key is crafted from sterling silver. The Mulsanne was revamped and redesigned by Bentley Mulliner to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats are designed to give passengers the most comfortable and private experience. They were inspired by the luxurious private aircraft. The custom heating and ventilation as well as air conditioning system was created to provide each passenger with the perfect temperature control.

In addition to a set of elegantly executed styling revisions, the Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that is capable of producing 560bhp as well as 479lbft of torque. This incredible power is complemented by a brand new suspension system that provides Bentley's trademark hushed ride.

The headquarters in Crewe are home to more than 4000 employees who are responsible for the development, design, and production of Bentley vehicles. These workers use skills that have been handed down for generations and apply them to the latest in technology in the automotive industry. This is British manufacturing at its best.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to create their own vehicle. Guests sit at a series of images, referred to "mood stations" and pick a set of photos - from scenic landscapes to sporting events that will inspire them to design their own. Each time a selection is made, a pattern will emerge which shows the model and color preferences for the personalized Bentley.

Bentley estimates that it takes about 500 man-hours to construct and put together a Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace new technology is the key to this laborious task. The Crewe factory workers do not employ a machine to place perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead, they do it by hand. Drivers have to park their cars manually, not using the built-in sensors to direct them to perpendicular and parallel spots.

During the event, Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization capabilities using an exclusive example of the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to the founder William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars include a key that displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
