The latest album from Sheeran Subtract continues to discover different ways of expressing his personal struggles and experiences through songs that are appreciated by a wide range of people. The most significant change is how he deals with the loss of a loved one, which is becoming more prominent in the themes of his album. In the opener, "Visiting Hours," Sheeran tells the story of a professional colleague's passing, and then ponders his own mortality. The songs that result, although not exactly optimistic or upbeat are not filled with any sense of loss.
