Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Mulliner, Bentley's custom coachbuilding unit, has designed a distinctive keycase to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the company. Made from Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a fluttering 'B' paperweight, a set keys as well as a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.
This is a great way to welcome a new vehicle owner.
Aesthetics
Bentley is a company that takes its aesthetics very seriously. It's evident in the precise positioning of its quilting, the choice of leather sourced from by-products of cattle, the wood that comes from sustainably managed forests and the creative patterns on its levers. As you approach a vehicle like the Continental GT W12, its exquisite design is revealed through carefully curated lighting.
The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever built. Its rear tonneau for instance, featured the largest piece of book-matched, dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to the production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.
It is this bespoke design, craftsmanship and attention to detail that have established Bentley as the world's most desirable automotive brand. The company continues to push the limits with the latest technology and craftsmanship, including the introduction of an instrument cluster that is digital, an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof, a handcrafted docking station for Apple iPads and electrochromic "smart" glass that can be switched between opaque and transparent by a button.
A century after its creation, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership following years of wrangling with BMW and BMW - celebrated its centennial in 2019. The marque planned a variety of special events and launches to commemorate the milestone event before pandemic planning became a priority.
Design
Bentley is a premium car manufacturer who produces lavish and extravagant cars. But even keys stand out. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver with an enormous B' logo to show everyone that you're a Bentley. It also has the years 1919 and 2019 to mark the company's centenary.
The Mulsanne was redesigned and redeveloped by Bentley Mulliner, to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats are designed to offer passengers unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. A customized heating, air conditioning and ventilation system has been designed to ensure each passenger has the perfect climate control setting.
Alongside a range of exquisitely executed styling tweaks and a host of elegantly executed styling changes, the Mulsanne is powered by twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that produces 560bhp and 479lb ft of torque. This prodigious power is complemented by a revolutionary suspension design that offers Bentley's hushed, quiet ride.
Bentley has released a special specification for cars manufactured after 2019 to celebrate its centennial. This is known as the Centenary Specification. The cabin features cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests and seats as well as other areas of the car. This is a great way to celebrate the occasion. The Centenary Specification also includes a custom Bentley keycase to complete the Bentley experience.
Function
The Bentley Mulsanne Key has two buttons one of which opens the trunk, and the other that is used to start the vehicle. It also has a switch that can activate the parking break. There is a knob to fold and unfold the mirrors when parking in tight spaces. Using this feature can aid in getting in and out of the car more quickly.
The key is made of vegetable tanned leather and takes two days to make each one. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed after which it is sealed and polished to give a superior result. It is sturdy compact and fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design resembles the Volkswagen Phaeton's massive car key, however it feels heavier and more luxurious.
It also has Secure-A-Key which prevents keyless entry theft. This device is placed inside the remote-control fob and is disabled when the key has not been used for more than a few minutes. It prevents thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can be used to unlock and start the car.
Bentley's unique design is a reflection of the company's values that include fine craftsmanship engineering expertise, as well as the latest technologies. The headquarters in Crewe are home to more than four hundred employees who are responsible for the design, development and production of Bentley vehicles. They employ techniques passed down for generations and apply them to the latest in automotive technology. This is the hallmark of British manufacturing at its best.
Personalisation
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own car. bentley continental key fob sit at a set of images called "mood stations" and pick a set of photos - from scenic vistas to sporting events - that will inspire them. Each time a selection is made, the pattern that emerges reveals the model of the Bentley, as well as the color and style preferences for the custom Bentley.
The guests are given a key case made by hand that houses the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Keys can also be equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door's opening path with the owner's name or logo as they are approaching the vehicle.
Bentley estimates that it requires 500 man-hours to build and put together the Mulsanne. The main reason for this lengthy effort is a deliberate refusal to embrace the latest technology. The Crewe factory workers don't use a machine to space perfectly-matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. And rather than using the car's built-in sensors to guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spaces the drivers must do it manually.
Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization capabilities with a special Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley. Edition, which pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited edition cars come with the key, which displays an item from the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
