Runescape Bird Snare Guide: Tips for Hunting
Types of Birds and Where to Find ThemHow to Use a Bird SnareThis post is part of the series: Runescape Hunting Guide Like the kebbit tracking method and hunting birds from Hunter level 1. Runescape. You'll need a bird snare to get started. It can be purchased at one of Runescape's Hunter shops for 6 grams. There is one in Yanille, and one in Nardah. You can also buy bird snares at Grand Exchange, but you will be charged more than at the hunter shops.
When you first start out at Hunter Level 1, you'll only be able set one bird snare at a. As you advance in experience, you'll be able set multiple snares. The following chart outlines: Hunter Level 1 - 1 Hunter Level 20 snare - Up to 2 Hunter Level 40 snares Up to 3 Hunter Level 60 snares - Up to 4 Hunter Level 80 snares up to 5 snares. It is possible for a bird snare fall and disappear if you don’t pay attention or are interrupted by a random snare. It's a good idea, especially if there is no way to reach an area where hunting shops are easily accessible and you don't have spares.
Before we get into the use of snares, take a look at the various birds you can find in Runescape and where they can be found.
Bird species and where to locate them
All Runescape birds will drop bones, raw meat, and some types of feathers. Here's an inventory of all the birds you can catch, and a brief description of each.
Crimson Swift
The Crimson Swift can be found in the Jungle Hunting Area, southeast of Feldip Hills, near the shoreline. Hunter Level 1 is the best level to start hunting this bird. The Crimson Swift will drop red feathers in addition to bones and other meats from the bird. These feathers can be used for the same reasons as normal feathers. (Click any image for more details.)
Golden Warbler This bird is a good target for a Hunter Level 5 or higher. It drops yellow feathers which can be used in the same way as regular feathers.
Copper Longtail - The Copper Longtail is found in the Woodland Hunting Area near the Piscatoris Fishing Colony. It drops brown feathers (used as regular feathers) and requires Hunter Level 9 to be able to snare.
Cerulean Twitch This bird is located in the Snow Hunting Area just northeast of Rellekka. The blue feathers can be used as regular feathers. To catch the Cerulean twistch, you need to have a Hunter Level of at least 11. Tropical Wagtail The Tropical Wagtail is located in the Jungle Hunting Area south of the Feldip Hills. It requires the Hunter Level 19 in order to catch. The bird sheds feathers that are stripy that function like regular feathers when used in fletching, but they have an additional purpose in fishing. If you use feathers with stripey patterns with a fly fishing rod and catch rainbow fish, you'll catch them instead of the usual fish you'd catch using other feathers in Runescape.
CALISTOMEBEL
Wimpy Bird Wimpy Bird In addition to requiring a Hunter Level of 39 or higher You'll also need to get to a certain point in the As a First Resort quest before you can catch Wimpy Birds. These birds can be located in the Oo'glog area and drop wimpy feathers. To capture wimpy Birds you'll need burn the tansymum.
How to Use a Bird Snare
You'll need some bird traps before you can begin for a hunt. When you spot some flying around, make your way to the location where you want to set up an snare for birds and click on the snare you have in your inventory to set up the trap.
If you have a Hunter Level of 39 or more You can smoke the trap to increase your chances of catching birds. However it is not required. You must wait for the bird to fall onto the trap and then set it in the front of you. This triggers the trap and, hopefully, catch the bird. Sometimes the trap can be triggered and the bird can escape. If this occurs, you'll need to remove the snare and set it up again. The image below shows two snares - one that hasn't been triggered yet (on the left) and the other that has been triggered and requires reset (on the right).
Once you've caught a bird in the snare, you can check it out. The snare, as well as the items from the captured bird (bones and raw bird meat feathers, and bones) will be added to your inventory.
