Researchers in the United States are investigating whether a type of flashing pulses of light at a frequency of 40 times per second (Hz) can not only enhance gamma brain wave activity, but also counteract some of the problems related to Alzheimer's and dementia. This may include preventing neural cell death and reducing the buildup of toxic proteins known as beta-amyloid, which are hallmarks of Alzheimer's and dementia.
