If you can see 120 frames per second on your gaming laptop's screen is twice as good as 60 frames-per-second, then surely eight times as many frames must be eight times better, right? Wikimedia This is the reasoning behind the latest panels that have super high refresh rates on Alienware gaming laptops. The Dell subsidiary now sells its M17 R5 17-inch laptops, as well as x17R2 17-inch laptops with brand new panels. It's claimed to be the fastest in industry.
Although the panels only display 1080p resolution at this amazing refresh rate, it's probably for good. You'll have to run a game that can actually output more than 500 frames-per-second for you to experience the benefits - switch off ray-tracing and go with Minecraft-grade textures, I suppose. The new panel has an average response time of 3ms and is compatible with NVIDIA GSync and AMD FreeSync, depending on your GPU configuration. The upgrade is $300 more than the base screen , which is 165Hz, which is 95 cents per hertz.
I've seen screens with 120hz in comparison to 240hz screens at trade show displays and they convinced me that even ultra-fast gamers could benefit from them. But what about doubling that speed again? It's not going to improve the performance of games, which I doubt, even for eSports pros with Special Eyes. Gaming equipment is famous for its extravagant overkill.
