After setting up Ubuntu 11.04, Wine and Warcraft III on my new ThinkPad I came across some issues with Unity. First of all, the Unity launcher's auto-hide feature prevented me from playing with my mouse (or at the very least from scrolling left). The F10 key was used by Unity to prevent the in-game menu (which also uses F10) not working. I was able to solve both of these problems by doing some Googling and playing around.
Fixing the left side
This is due to Unity launcher's autohide feature. To toggle it you need to scroll the mouse to the left. However, this issue occurs even when auto-hide is disabled in the CompizConfig Settings Manager. This issue can be solved by removing Reveal Mode. This is the option that decides the screen area that will be hidden.
Be aware that disabling the Reveal Mode will mean that you cannot toggle the Unity launcher by moving the mouse to the left of the screen. It should still be possible to switch it on by moving the mouse to the top-left corner, however you may prefer to disable auto-hide completely.
Extrememining.org
1. Install the CompizConfig Settings Manager sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager 2. Open CompizConfig Settings Manager ccsm 3. Open 'Ubuntu Unity Plugin’ under the "Desktop" section. Click on the "Reveal Mode button. A dialog box will pop up and you can click the green bar on the left to stop it from toggling auto-hide and press OK. "Reveal Mode will now read "None". 5. You're done. Open a full-screen game like Warcraft III and try scrolling with the left side of the screen to confirm.
Fixing F10
Unity defaults to using F10 as a shortcut to the File menu of any application currently in focus. It is easily disabled within the CompizConfig Settings Manager.
1. Follow the steps 1-3 as above. 2. Click on the 'Key to open the first panel menu' button, which should be displaying 'F10'' 3. Uncheck the checkbox 'Enabled' and then press OK 4. You're done. To confirm, press F10.
