Des Moines, Iowa isn't the kind of place you'd consider a place of artistic freedom and oversized expression, but this is exactly what happened when Paul Gray, Shawn Crahan and Joey Jordison met up in the mid-90s to form one of the most acclaimed Nu Metal bands of all time. The band wasn't well-known at the time they came together, but within a few years they went on to tour throughout the world, and play at massive festivals. The band's debut album Iowa was a huge success and, in no time the group had reached a level of success which Paul Gray and co could have only imagined when they were in their basement session.





One of the most important elements that led to the continued success of Slipknot was their stage performances and music videos that featured large-than-life images as well as theatrics and extravagant costumes. They brought a whole new dimension to heavy metal through their acrobatics and showmanship that made their music stand out and inspired bands such as Korn to emulate the same stage acts and costumes.





In addition to the wildly entertaining live shows, the albums of Slipknot are also hugely popular with their unique and catchy songs that stand out from the common metal band. The band's music style is hard to classify and it has always been a mixture of styles, from heavy to more melodic and catchy, giving it a distinct sound.





Slipknot merchandise is very popular with fans, particularly with regard to the band's costumes, which have become the band's trademark. Slipknot after the massive success of Iowa was forced to take a break for a couple of months to concentrate on other projects. Then, read more were back to their top form. Their sophomore album, Sacrifice, was a massive success, and they began touring the world again.





In the second half of 2003, Corey Taylor, Chris Fehn, Mick Thomson, Sid Wilson, Craig Jones, James Root and Joey Jordison were back in the studio to record the third album by the band. With Vol. Slipknot reinvented themselves with Vol. 2. The album was a big success, and the band were awarded the Grammy Award for their performance of the track Before I Forget.





A few years later, the members of Slipknot revealed the drummer Joey Jordison was leaving the group. The reason behind his departure isn't known yet, but all of the band have reunited to continue making groundbreaking albums, like the fourth album All Hope Is Gone. The group has continued to perform since and continues to impress their fans with their electrifying shows.
