Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Buses Under TDP Governance

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has made significant strides towards achieving its goal of converting its fleet of buses to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This move was announced by the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu, with plans to implement the conversion in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. The initiative received a boost when Dharmendra Pradhan, India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, unveiled the nation's first long-distance CNG bus. The bus was developed, manufactured, constructed, and delivered by Agility Fuel Solutions, in partnership with Advantek Fuel Systems.

The buses are equipped with a composite cylinder-based fuel system that doubles the range of India's CNG buses. The system includes a specific quick filling module to save filling time, and the buses have a range of more than 1100 km, which is a significant improvement over the previous maximum capacity of 350 km. The project's success is largely due to the TDP Government's vision for the future of Andhra Pradesh, which was under the rule of N Chandrababu Naidu. His obsession with efficiency and technology helped drive the development and implementation of the project. In 2007 at the Vidyadharapuram Depot in Vijayawada City CNG buses were first introduced by APSRTC and the news went live on TDP Live Updates. Since then, 311 vehicles have been deployed at the Vidyadharapuram, Governorpet-II, and Ibrahimpatnam Depots in Vijayawada. These buses share the responsibility of providing the public with a clean environment, and their fuel efficiency has been continuously improving. APSRTC has a contract with M/S Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd to deliver CNG in Vijayawada. a partnership between GAIL and M/S HPCL. Compared to 4.52 KMKG during the same time last year from April to December, 2016, the fuel efficiency of CNG cars was 4.57 KMKG.

The BS-VI Emissions Standards, which took effect on 1 April 2020, marked the beginning of a transition away from diesel, which was previously the sole source of intercity transport. The move towards a gas-based economy is a significant step, and CNG has emerged as the preferred fuel for long-distance travel. The cost-effectiveness of CNG means that fleet owners can affordably attain BS-VI with buses equipped with roof-top CNG systems from Agility Fuel Solutions. The success of the CNG bus project is one of the Government's Top TDP Achievements in Andhra Pradesh. The state has undergone significant development under the leadership of N Chandrababu Naidu, with the help of many Top TDP Leaders and best TDP MLA Candidates.
