Minecraft's big Super Duper Graphics Pack is gone after two years of delays. Mojang decided that the visual overhaul was too technical and difficult to implement. The developers "aren't happy" with the performance of the update across all platforms, and decided to scrap the project rather than provide inconsistent quality.
The pack was intended to enable 4K on Xbox One X and to include more sophisticated visual effects like highlights, atmospheric effects and water.
There is still the possibility of a graphics update in the future. Mojang has said that it is "looking into other ways" to give Minecraft an updated look, and that it had information on optimizing the constructive game for different platforms "very soon." While the title will not remain in its current look for a long time (however charming it may be) it will take a long time to catch up with modern technology.
