Mr. Serv-On's debut album, Life Insurance, is probably going to be his first album that has any of the major hip hop stars on it. It was originally released in August of 1997 through No Limit Recordings and was produced primarily by the labels in house production crew, Beats by the Pound. The album wasn't successful enough to gain much attention in mainstream hip hop circles, but has nevertheless been regarded as a good hip hop release, and Mr. Serv on Life Insurance remains one of his most popular albums.
Life Insurance has a different sound from his other releases, and is one of the few hip hop albums that have not received a major crossover success in mainstream hip hop circles. Instead, it managed to gain a loyal audience of hip hop listeners in many different areas of the country. While it isn't a crossover hit, Mr. Serv's loyal following of loyal listeners has helped him earn much respect in the rap world. Many consider Life Insurance to be Mr. Serv's best album in terms of his career as a rapper.
This album starts out with the typical introspective sound that Mr. Serv makes a habit of. This part of the album is a great place to get into Mr. Serv's own thoughts on his music and how he feels about his career. It also gives us some basic information on how he got started in the music business in the first place, his experiences with labels and record companies, and the difficulties he has had in his past with the music industry. Mr. Serv is very candid in this part of the album, which makes it easier to understand.
Mr. Serv goes on to say that the majority of his records will feature people who he considers to be his "best friends." This part of the album also contains his first single, "Life", and even includes his song from the album that features D-Nice, D12, and Raekwon.
As with other rappers in his category, Mr. Serv's next single, "Gangsta," features a hard hitting instrumental that's worth the listen. Mr. Serv also has a guest appearance from Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck and Rakim on this song. The album ends with the aforementioned instrumental, and a song entitled "Came Up." "Came Up" is more of the same introspective sound as its predecessor, and showcases Mr. Serv's knack for producing great hooks.
The last few tracks on this great album feature Mr. Serv and Inspectah Deck rap along side of Inspectah Deck. They bring a different style to the verses, as well as the beats, but still maintain the same style of rapping. "Big Bad Vibes"Came Up" are the most popular songs on this album.
Overall, Mr Serv on Life Insurance is a great album that features a number of great beats. It doesn't have the crossover hit potential of other hip hop albums such as "The Blue Carpet Ride"All My Life" with Jay-Z or any of the other major rap acts, but the fact that Mr Serv put out an album that doesn't have the crossover appeal of these other albums says a lot about Mr. Serv as a rap artist. linkedin has a loyal following and is highly respected as a hip hop artist.
Hip hop has been plagued lately by many artists trying to imitate the success of the big names in hip hop, but Mr Serv doesn't just copy what other artists do. Instead, he seems to be constantly trying new things, creating music that's new and fresh, and making great beats and rapping to boot. There are many good things about Mr. Serv, but if you're looking for a hip hop album that's not mainstream you may want to stay away from this one. You'll find a unique album in Mr. Serv on Life Insurance, and it won't be all that difficult to find a copy somewhere on the internet.
