Minecraft intends to make it easier for players to get hold of content created by community creators and fans.



Many players have already created complex worlds to explore, adventure games to play or even alter the game itself to offer completely new experiences within it.



Now they'll be able to sell their content directly through the game itself the brand new Minecraft Marketplace.



"We would like to help entrepreneurs to start businesses through our platform," producer John Thornton says to Newsbeat.



Until now people who create adventure maps skin packs for characters or other experiences to play the game have not been allowed to sell them directly to other players.



Official Minecraft content is not sold in this manner. However, a few players still earn a living from the game.



James Delaney, is founder of a group of Minecraft creators called Blockworks and has managed to create a business despite the constraints.



He is happy to welcome the Marketplace.



He told Newsbeat that he hopes it could be the start of a steady and regular income.



"In the past, we've been relying on commissions to come in but you're not certain of when that happens."



He's the head of 62 creators in 20 different countries.



Their primary source of income is creating Minecraft-based content to support marketing and educational campaigns.

James "got quite into" making Minecraft maps with his online friends and realized in the following years that there was a chance to make a living.



He adds, "At least now we have a sense of the audience for our content."



"If it does succeed, we know that we will continue to work on a more regular and stable basis."



"Also it's content we can make rather than be required to create therefore we have creative control over it in this regards."



The marketplace will be available later in the year and will be accessible on Windows 10 and Pocket versions of the game.



This means that the vast majority of Minecraft players across the globe, estimated at 120 million players, will have access to the game. However, console gamers won't.



John Thornton states, "Our ambition is to try and connect creators and players."



"On Pocket edition it can be difficult to transfer content onto devices, which means it's difficult for creators to showcase the content they'd like to share with the world.



"By connecting creators and the marketplace it will make it easier for users to find something they like, purchase it, and then download it available on their devices."



Players will be able to access them for free, so users can still create community experiences.



Producers hope that consumers will pay for content that is easier to find.



John says, "If you want people to share your content now, you should place it online and inform them of the location."



"You can make use of existing social networks to accomplish this, but it's more effective to bring it into the game."



"Players are able to interact with things they love in the context of the game they play."



He hopes that the game will help James to establish a successful business.



The Minecraft team are launching the new service with nine creators from around the world to begin with.



The adventure maps skin packs, experiences and adventure maps will be monitored by the central Minecraft team to ensure they're suitable for the game's target audience.
