IOS 16 Lets you Connect Nintendo Switch Controllers to your Iphone or IPad

Do you have a Nintendo Switch and occasionally enjoy playing mobile games on your iPhone or iPad? Then, you'll be happy to learn that the upcoming iOS 16 update will add the possibility of connecting Nintendo Joy-Con controllers to your Apple device. It's one of the five features that aren't mentioned in the new operating system.

In the last few years, game makers have added more complex gameplay to mobile gaming. You can play games like Fortnite, Call of Duty and Apex Legends on your mobile device with services like GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming. A gaming controller might be required for phones or tablets that has smaller screens than your TV.

Apple does not have to be the first to use third-party controllers. At present you can connect the DualSense from PlayStation and the wireless controller for Xbox to your iPhone or iPad. Controllers from other companies such as the Razer Kishi and the Backbone One are specifically designed for mobile gaming.

If you already have an Nintendo Switch, you don't need to buy an external gaming console. There are two Joy-Cons connected to your console. The best part is, connecting the Joy-Cons with your iPhone or iPad takes just several minutes.

This is only applicable on iOS 16, which is currently in a public beta. Here's how you can download it right now.

How to pair your Joy-Cons with your iPhone or iPad To start you'll need to make sure that your Joy-Cons have been charged and ready to use. If not, just connect them to the Nintendo Switch while it's charging in the dock. Once your Joy-Cons have been in good condition and ready for use remove them from your console and do the following:

1. Press and hold the black pairing button on the top of the Joy-Con until you see the green light running between the two. This will put the Joy-Con in pairing mode.

2. Then, open Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone/iPad.

3. Then, scroll down and locate your Joy-Con under Other Devices. Based on the Joy-Con with which you're currently pairing you'll see either Joy Con L or Joy-Con.

4. To pair it, just tap the Joy-Con option. If necessary, repeat the process using the other Joy-Con.

Once your Joy-Cons are paired with each other, you can launch any game that is compatible with third-party controllers, like Minecraft, Among Us and Call of Duty, and play with your newly-paired Joy-Cons. There are some mobile games that do not accommodate both Joy-Con controllers simultaneously and you may only need to pair one.

To disconnect Joy-Cons from the network, open Settings >Bluetooth and tap the blue information icon. Then, hit Disconnect.
