Minecraft Developer Mojang will not Allow NFTs And Blockchain Tech

The company posted on its blog a post titled "Minecraft and NFTs" and acknowledged that some companies and creators have begun to launch NFT projects that are based on Minecraft world files and skin packs. The blog post suggested that Minecraft creators might use the game to create and market collectible NFTs. These NFTs could be earned through activities on a Minecraft server or as a reward for their activities in the real world.



"To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including skins, worlds and other items, or any other mods," Mojang wrote in the post.



"We will also be keeping an eye on the way blockchain technology develops in the future to ensure the above principles are withheld and determine if it can provide more secure gaming or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming," the company added. "However we don't have any plans to incorporate blockchain technology into Minecraft at the moment."



The traditional game industry has begun to disengage itself from NFTs in recent months following backlash from players and a market that is crashing. Sony announced last week that it would be launching the feature of digital collectibles in its new PlayStation Rewards program. However, Sony clarified emphatically that its collectibles are "definitely not NFTs." Ubisoft, which became the first major game publisher to test with NFTs in the fall of last year, has since shut down its experiment after four months. Microsoft has not given a definitive opinion on the issue in relation to its gaming properties before the present.
