If seeing 120 frames-per-second on your gaming laptop's screen is twice better than 60 frames-per-second so surely eight times the amount of frames is eight times better isn't it? That's the reason behind the latest super high-refresh rate panels offered on Alienware gaming laptops. The Dell subsidiary is now selling its M17 R5 and x17R2 17-inch laptops that have new panels, which are claimed to be the fastest in the industry.
Although the panels can only display 1080p resolution at this incredible refresh rate, it's likely for good. After all, you'll need to run games that produce nearly 500 frames per second to reap the benefits. Turn off ray-tracing and go with Minecraft-grade textures, I suppose. The new screen has an average response time of 3ms and is compatible with NVIDIA GSync and AMD FreeSync, depending on your GPU configuration. The upgrade costs $300 over the 165Hz base screen, which works out to 95 cents per hertz.

I've seen screens with 120hz in comparison to 240hz screens at trade shows, and they were enough for me to believe that even gamers with ultra-fast speeds could benefit from these screens. What if you could double that speed? I'm not sure if it will improve actual gaming performance - I'm sure it won't be able to increase it even for amazing eSports pros equipped with Special Eyes. But ridiculous excess is the main draw of gaming hardware, after all.
