All folks could have many teachers throughout our lifetimes. From kindergarten onward, teachers are second only to our parents in shaping our lifelong development. Despite their essential role in our lives, it is often difficult to return through your life history and indicate specific teachers who left marks on us. Still, you can occasionally find a specific teacher whom you will never forget, who has made a significant positive influence on your own life.
This is the unfortunately tragedy of our school system. Frequently, they educate for mediocrity, employing far too many mediocre teachers. (Sorry teachers, it's often not your fault, so don't take it too personally).
In the case of music instrument teachers, the situation is different. Rather than being stuck with the teachers assigned by the institution system, parents get the chance to choose the teachers who will function as best match for his or her children.
In addition, studying with a music teacher can be different than a classroom setting because most of the sessions are one on one. This individual attention makes deciding on the best teacher a lot more crucial for the students. Furthermore, music students will often continue studying with the same teacher for years, making selecting the right teacher even more vital.
In this post I'll refer to few important points you should consider when choosing an excellent music teacher.
1. A great performer isn't necessary a great teacher.
This is a very easy trap to belong to. You visit a great performer, which means you assume he must be an excellent teacher. However, performance abilities do not say anything about pedagogical abilities. All great performance abilities say is that teacher is an expert in performance. Perhaps he has even gotten excellent students who've really learned their fine skills from other teachers and continued with this particular master due to his reputation as a performer. Make an effort to interview present and past students of this teacher to be able to thoroughly understand his pedagogical skills.
2. Listen to your instincts whenever choosing a music teacher.
If the personality of the teacher does not seem like an excellent fit, you are probably right. Dealing with a musical teacher is a very intensive and intimate experience. If you do not feel comfortable and thinking about working with him, he could be probably not the proper person that you should work with. Visit a teacher that fits your personality. Hold on for the teacher you as well as your child feel safe with.
3. An excellent teacher plants seeds of enthusiasm and passion for learning and exploration.
A teacher should have that special personality that may cause you to continue exploring the things you work on together. I intentionally use the word "explore" and not "practice" here. Many teachers unfortunately seek students who will practice a lot. That is the wrong attitude. Practicing is something you need to do. Exploring is something you want to do. The very best teachers will plant the spark of enthusiasm in the students.
4. Do not compromise on an unprofessional teacher.
In order to learn a musical instrument well, choosing an educated, experienced teacher is crucial. Injuries from playing a musical instrument incorrectly are unfortunately both common and potentially irreversible. Usually do not risk your wellbeing or your musical future to save lots of a few dollars having an inexperienced, unprofessional teacher.
5. Playing an instrument is also a social experience. Although most interaction together with your teacher is in private sessions, I highly recommend finding a teacher who also uses chamber music sessions. These group sessions certainly are a great opportunity to enhance your abilities while challenging them in front of other music students. As a music teacher, I have found these group sessions to be one of the most rewarding experiences for both my students and myself.
Summary:
1. Visit website - Pedagogical ability is a lot more important than performing skills for developing your musical abilities.
2. A positive reference to your teacher's personality is significant for the success for your success as a students and a player. Find a teacher with a nice personality that you could work with.
3. A great teacher will raise your passion to play. Training can be an old fashion term. Playing an instrument must be enjoyable, not just a punishment.
4. Getting a professional teacher with strong technical knowledge is essential for your career. Usually do not compromise on an amateur teacher would you not learn how to teach.
5. Playing with friends is really a key section of your instrumental studies. Find groups you can join and play with. Ideally, your teacher will allow you to with chamber music sessions.
