10 Unexpected Railroad Workers Tips
Union Pacific Houston Cancer - Is Creosote Still Affecting Houstonians?

For decades, neighbors in Houston's Fifth Ward have argued the company hasn't done enough to remove creosote in the underground air at its rail yard that is contaminated. Recent tests have revealed that the contamination may be in the vicinity of residents.

Researchers believe it could be related to the elevated cancer rates in the area. Two years after the launch of a state-wide health investigation Researchers found that there were higher than expected rates of lymphoblastic childhood and adult kidney and pelvis cancers in areas around the Union Pacific site.

Creosote

Creosote is a popular chemical used for the treatment of wood is also a popular one. It can also cause cancer in those who are exposed to it.

It is a heavy oily substance which is black or amber in color and has a smokey odor and burnt taste. It is a distillation of coal product that has been used for more than 150 years as a wood preserver.

In the United States, it is used to treat railroad ties as well as other types of wood, including fence posts, utility poles and marine pilings. It is also used to shield log homes and other structures from insects and rot infestation.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Creosote is a chemical that could be dangerous. Exposure to creosote for short periods of time can cause skin and eye irritation, chemical burns stomach pains, burning of mouth or throat, kidney or liver problems and even permanent damage.

Long-term exposure to the sun can cause skin and scrotum cancer. This is a serious issue for those who come in direct contact with it during wood treatment or in other manufacturing processes.

According to the EPA it is a known human cancer-causing agent. It has been linked with many types of cancer such as esophageal cancer as well as lung cancer.

Residents of Houston's Fifth Ward neighborhood have been exposed to creosote for years due to an old rail yard close to their homes. They claim that the chemical has caused soil and homes to be contaminated and continues to spread underground.

Railroad Cancer Lawsuit Settlements and Houston have joined forces to fight Union Pacific in federal court. They demand that the company test for contamination regularly and take preventative measures to stop it from spreading.

In October 2017 the group of Fifth Ward neighbors filed a lawsuit against Union Pacific. They claim that creosote has contaminated their soil and caused serious health issues from the former rail yard.

They are seeking compensation for their diseases and suffering as well as compensation from the railroad for the cost of cleaning and other costs. They claim that they have been affected by environmental racism and discrimination, as well as other types of pollution that has affected their families and themselves.

Dioxin

Dioxins are chemical compounds that aren't able to break down in the environment quickly , and can remain in the air, water soil or sediment for a lengthy period. They can come from diverse sources, including natural disasters, industrial accidents smoking cigarettes, and incineration of hazardous waste.

Although the health effects of dioxin at low levels aren't yet known but there is evidence that they can cause serious illnesses like cancer. Higher levels of dioxin have been linked to an increased risk for organ cancers, heart disease, immune problems, and endocrine issues like hormonal imbalances. They can also lead to reproductive issues, a weak immune system, menstrual problems and diabetes hair loss, weight gain and facial cysts called chloracne.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) the most common way people are exposed to the toxins is through food and water. They aren't water-soluble or volatile, therefore they are more likely to be absorbed into the body through the consumption of dairy products, fish or other seafood.

It is crucial to keep in mind that exposure to dioxins can be detrimental to your health based on a variety of factors , including how much you eat, drink, and the frequency with which you breathe. It is also essential to take into consideration your age, gender and nutrition status, as well as diet and family traits in addition to other factors in your health that could affect whether you are affected by dioxins or not.

Additionally, the type of contaminant can be an important factor. The EPA states that certain toxic substances are more likely to cause harm effect on the human body than others. For instance, polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are more likely to have a detrimental effect on your health than creosote.

For instance, PCBs can damage a person's eyes, kidneys, and liver. They also can harm the immune system and cause problems with the development of healthy bones, teeth and bones.

Houston's Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden neighbors have complained for years of cluster of cancer deaths that are caused by the Union Pacific rail yard. The yard is right close to their homes. Friday's announcement by the city's health department stated that it had identified cancer-causing chemicals in samples of the rail yard. The announcement said that the results were not a good sign. Mayor Sylvester Turner told FOX 26 that he's going to sue Union Pacific over the matter, and said a plan that he has submitted to Texas environmental regulators wouldn't be sufficient in light of the findings.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are toxic chemicals that have been used in industrial and consumer products for more than 60 years. After being shown to cause cancer and suppress the immune system These chemicals were banned in 1979.

PCBs can be harmful to soil and water as well as air in many regions of the globe once they are released into the environment. Railroad Cancer Lawsuit Settlements are strong binders for organic matter and can be easily transported and accumulated in the environment.

Therefore, PCBs are a major concern for the protection of public health and the environment. The EPA is adamant that they are a human carcinogen and has shown that they can cause cancer in laboratory animals.

Some studies also link PCBs to birth defects in children. This is especially the case for children who've been exposed to these chemicals while in the womb.

The most common route for exposure to PCBs is through food. Fish is the primary source of exposure since they are the source of the most PCBs. However, PCBs can also be present in beef and dairy and other agricultural products.

Another way to be exposed to PCBs is by drinking or showering with water that has been contaminated with PCBs. This can be caused by spills or leaks that may be caused by electrical or other equipment.

Similarly, people can also be exposed to PCBs by breathing in air or through the skin. These chemicals can cause a condition called chloracne, which is small, pale, yellow skin lesions that can last for weeks or even years.

However, the effects of PCBs on human health are not yet fully comprehended. Researchers have suggested that they may cause liver and biliary cancers in humans. However further research is required to better understand how this impacts us.

Csx Lawsuit Settlements has also been examining whether these chemicals can cause birth defects for newborns, including lower birth weight. A low birth weight has been associated with insulin resistance, or Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease later in the course of. In two studies, children born with higher levels of PCBs in their cord blood had lower body weight at birth, and/or later in childhood.

Lead

Lead is a toxic metal that can be present in a variety of products like paints, pipes, and food cans. The body can absorb it through two major routes: the respiratory and oral.

Railroad Cancer Lawsuit Settlements is an extremely antioxidant that can react with other chemicals found in the environment. This could cause it to build up in the body and can lead to serious health problems like cancer, among other diseases.

Houston residents who live near the Union Pacific Railroad's creosote facility have a high rate of cancer. The city has asked for the federal government's assistance in the cleanup of the railroad's contaminated facility.

Union Pacific Railroad has a history of having affected its Fifth Ward rail yard and Kashmere Garden neighborhood with chemicals that can cause cancer. Residents have claimed that the company has been working to remove the contamination but the plan submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was not enough.

One of the most important problems that arose due to the contamination is the groundwater plume beneath homes in the area. A recent study conducted by health officials has shown that soil samples from the rail yard contain an increased amount of creosote than that recommended for drinking water.

Another cause for concern is the slow evaporation of creosote from the atmosphere. It causes residents to breathe in dangerous levels of vapors that are dangerous for children and adults.

It is possible that the vapors cause cancer for those who breathe them. To learn more about the effect of the vapors on the lives of residents the neighborhood, a door-to-door survey being conducted in the neighborhood.

This is a serious problem for the Fifth Ward communities and Kashmere Gardens. This is a very sad situation that must be addressed immediately.

A Department of State Health Services study found that the rate of leukemia was five times higher in children living in the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens areas than was expected. The study also revealed that adult cancers were more prevalent in these neighborhoods than in other areas of Texas.
