Minecraft Survival Mode Preview

Here's a glimpse of Minecraft's Survival Mode that paid players will get to try out in just a week (September 1st). Since our first post about the game it has seen a lot happen. For instance, there was a swimming cave pigs. Swimming cave pigs! They are also fond of flesh but only when it's in Hot Pockets.

Jwill is a great musician! I can't wait for this game to start. What do you think, is this a game? I believe this is something toy.

Behemoth Holy crap. This just made me realize how tiny I am here on earth because this proves Notch is a GOD. He was the one who invented Minecraft, and on the seventh day is said to rest somewhere in Indonesia?



Wiivn is better, but I don't like the idea that slower destroyed bricks and construction limitations are combined... It's going to appear like a standard mmo.



MasterShake: What is the Survival Mode is it? It does not even have Wiivn's health bar.

would be better to have a build mode , as well as a survival mode where you are able to dig only a some things and you are required to explore dungeons designed by others, in this way the game looks like an editor with a game in the middle, or one that is running in the fancy "debug mode "... it doesn't look nor a game or a world builder

- Nicholas Lee I don't know whether it's me, or if it's something else however, I'm still unable to "get" this game.



Eagle Guys, Notch is still in sandbox mode. If you visit his website, you'll see that he's creating zombie siege, survival mode, modes as well as zombie siege mode. Sandbox mode will be kept. The game is currently in alpha, and is only a few months old. It's not yet a game but it's a toy. Notch is still working on the game's various modes. :P

Citricsquid @malasdair, basically. The pre-ordering process has allowed him to switch to working on minecraft 60 percent of the time, the other 40% of the time for his IRL "outside of his home" job, as it would be a nightmare to work on his own for the majority of the time - so yes we're paying him to dev it more



Gutter Nicholas Lee: It's not an actual game however I don't believe that it is. So we aren't that crazy.



- FISH I wish the artwork was less muddy and pixelated.



It would be awesome if it had a cleaner style similar to a megaman legends.



can the game support custom texture sets? It would be fantastic. I would make one.



- Tim L. I hold patents on the words "Mine", "Craft" and "Scott's Mother" So, you're all being accused of being sued.



- Nobody I have never liked the super pixelated art style in indie games. If it's not serving any purpose in the game, then it's just an exercise in sluggishness.



You don't appear like a mainstream game, I get it But now you look like every other badly rendered indie game.

- Schwerpunk I never really thought about the style of graphics. It just seems to fit.



Notch has also said that He will release a DRM free version of the software. I'm guessing that you can simply swap out the texture files.



I refer to the game itself as it illustrates how important it is for players to accomplish what they want to do is Notch.

- contra Looks great. While I didnt really have the time to get into building stuff in the sandbox for beta, it's still fascinating to take a look. I also hope that the music in the video is included in the game. It's perfectly suited and I am getting tired of the chiptunes.



- Sparky Every time I play this game, it makes me believe that there are millions of really amazing ideas that have yet to be explored.



(P.S. I'm with Fish regarding the intentionally low resolution textures. However, that's purely subjective.



This build is a lot more polished than the last one I played. Keep up the good work!



FISH What I am referring to is that textures should be maintained at the same resolution, but removed and used with less colors.



Low-resolution is fantastic, but it's not just about the resolution. Every pixel counts. Every pixel counts. At the moment, they don't.



- Sparky Yes, I understand the point you are making with the textures and I agree. Sorry for not being precise. Megaman Legends is an excellent example of a game which uses low resolution and low color depth textures, yet isn’t intentionally imprecise or cluttered. It has lots of clear solid color regions and nice hand-pixelled detail.
