The blocky sandbox game that is so popular Minecraft is close to 54 million copies sold across all platforms, according to Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also tweeted that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have exceeded sales of the PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and Vita in August, with the latter being Cross-Buy compatible, free for those with the PS3 version. Xbox One and PS4 owners who have the game installed on Xbox 360 or PS3 will be able to download the new-gen versions for $5.
The first version of Minecraft was released in May 2009. It was two years prior to its full release in November of 2011. Mojang and creator Markus "Notch" Persson have been celebrating numerous sales milestones since then, with the most recent noting that 15 million copies of the PC version were sold in April.
