Although Babymetal have been able to boast a mixed record regarding their releases the fourth album, The Other One, is a huge improvement. This is the first time they've truly nail their sound and even if you've dismissed their music before - or you're looking for an entirely different approach to metal, then The Other One is well worth giving a listen.

The term "Kawaii Metal", which is a mix of heavy metal and Japanese pop music, was invented in Japan in the year 2010. This genre blends J-pop with heavy metal and is hugely loved across Japan and around the world.



This is a genre of music that is being enjoyed by many of the younger fans, and has even helped to convert Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt's daughter metalhead. Babymetal has created a new genre of music that women love. In a world where metal is viewed as a genre dominated by men, the kawaii elements in Babymetal have helped create this new genre.


The band is distinctive as well as innovative, and has an enormous fan base across the globe. The group has also been credited for breaking down the gender boundaries within pop and metal and also enticing women to pursue careers in the industry.


Their first album, Babymetal, was a critically acclaimed success that received a lot of praise from the music press. Metal Resistance and Metal Galaxy were their next albums. Both were a better mix of songs and better instrumentation.


Babymetal is an artist who blends Japanese kawaii music and heavy metal in a manner that makes sense. The vocals are extremely reminiscent of Japanese idol artists, and they use their unique dance styles to give an additional dimension to the music.

They've got some of the best lyrics that we've heard in a very long time. They really do push the boundaries of the metal genre as a whole which makes them a fascinating show to watch.
