Avanos Medical Recalls Cortrak*2 Ental Access System
According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Avanos Medical recalls the Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System because the misplacement of nasogastric or nasoente tubes has led to injury and death of patients. The recall includes 629 devices that were sold in the United States.

Avanos marketing the Cortrak*2 Endural Access System has been primarily for its screen-based visualizations of patients' stomachs and small bowels, which assist in the placement medical feed tubes. If the tube is placed incorrectly, however it is possible for patients to suffer injury to their vocal cords, lungs or trachea. Avanos Medical's recall notice states that as of 2015, there have been 60 patient deaths and 23 injuries related to misplacement nasogastric feed tubes when using the CORTRAK*2 enteral access system. Avanos Medical feeding tube Pneumothorax (collapsed lung) or pneumothorax, perforation (a gap or hole in the lung's wall), pneumonia, and the pleural effusion (excess fluid between the lungsand chest cavity) are just a few incidents.

Avanos is the second caution that the FDA has issued in relation to intra-oral feeding tubes. In February, parents and healthcare professionals were warned by the FDA about the possibility of strangulation of children using tubes for feeding. Avanos Medical Two cases of strangulation in children was reported in 2021. It was caused by the tubing system that was placed around the neck of the patient.
