Colter Wall is the Canadian baritone from the West is bringing back the genre of the cowboy song by bringing a fresh and exciting spin to the songs. In an era where country music is being more and more diluted due to modern production practices and marketing techniques, Wall's music stands out as a strong dedication to the music's roots.


When I first listened to Wall's debut album in the year 2018, I was struck by the power of his vocals and how he gave each song an authentic feel. The album was a warm welcome return to a genre of music from the country genre that had fallen out of favor, and it demonstrated that Wall was not just adept at writing new music as well, but also able to connect to his audience in a way that was personal.


Wall's debut three albums have allowed him to establish himself as an artist who isn't afraid to take on the genre in an attempt to revive and rebuild its foundation. His unique vocals and a skilled sense of lyrical story telling have helped him establish a loyal following among the young fans who have been drawn to Western music for a number of generations.


The result has been a mix between successes and failures, with certain songs being praised as the best and others falling short. On the album that is out, Little Songs, Wall continues to explore the rich tradition of cowboy and Western music, while attempting to create a modern music that sounds as authentic as possible.


The songs are fantastic However, there are times that feel too bare or basic. It's not a problem, but it does affect the overall quality however it can make the songs appear less than their fullest potential.


For instance, "The Trains Are Gone" carries the same melodic lyrics as the first track, "Saskatchewan in 1881." This is a blunder choice and one I'm hoping will be rectified by the time that the album drops in July.


On the other hand "Plain to See Plainsman" and "Manitoba Man" stand out as outstanding singles. The classic country song "Thinkin' On a Woman", which should have been composed fifty years ago, is an excellent instance.


This album is a wonderful tribute to the prairie, a region that Wall has spent a good portion of his life on, and it certainly exhibits his affection for the region in a captivating way. colterwallmerch shows off his incredible range of musical expression, and will likely last for a long time.


However, it also feels like there was a lot of pressure on the recording process, and there was too little time invested in the album in general. It would have been great to give the album more time to grow and develop, which might have helped it stand out from the other albums Wall has released.



This album, despite the fact that it's not the best Wall has ever released, is still an excellent listen. It could have been more enjoyable when Wall had given the songs more time and thought.
