1. Hidden Bomb - There is a hidden bomb and to defuse it the riddle must be completed, it is somewhere on the squadron premises, and the cadets need to organize a search party to find it.They are timed. Smeac briefing to be given to team leader. Bomb needs to be identifiable and recognized by the cadets.Inside of the atc part or outside only.

Two cops walked into a room with no windows and found a dead man who obviously hung himself from the ceiling, though they couldn't figure out how. There was no chair beneath him that he might have jumped off of, or a table. Just a puddle of water. How'd he do it
once upon a time a farmer went to a market and purchased a fox, a goose, and a bag of beans. On his way home, the farmer came to the bank of a river and rented a boat. But in crossing the river by boat, the farmer could carry only himself and a single one of his purchases - the fox, the goose, or the bag of beans.

If left together, the fox would eat the goose, or the goose would eat the beans.

The farmer's challenge was to carry himself and his purchases to the far bank of the river, leaving each purchase intact. How did he do it?

Solution[edit]
The first step must be to take the goose across the river, as any other will result in the goose or the beans being eaten. When the farmer returns to the original side, he has the choice of taking either the fox or the beans across next. If he takes the fox across, he would have to return to get the beans, resulting in the fox eating the goose. If he takes the beans across second, he will need to return to get the fox, resulting in the beans being eaten by the goose. The dilemma is solved by taking the fox (or the beans) over and bringing the goose back. Now he can take the beans (or the fox) over, and finally return to fetch the goose.

His actions in the solution are summarised in the following steps:
Take goose over
Return
Take fox or beans over
Return with goose
Take beans or fox over
Return
Take goose over
Thus there are seven crossings, four forward and three back.
2.Exercise
3 - A Knotty Problem

Purpose of exercise - Learn to keep control in a situation where sub groups appear

Preparation - Take a shoe lace and tie 3 knots in it, one at each end being a simple knot and a more difficult knot in the middle.

Get a Long length of rope, long enough for everyone in the team to hold with both hands.

Exercise - Line up all the people who are going to take part in the exercise in a straight line with the long rope on the floor in front of them
Get them to put their hands out in front of them (palms down). Then tell them to pick up the rope.
From this point until the end of the exercise, they cannot move their hands from that part of the rope (no letting go, no sliding their hands along it)
Now the staff nominate where in the rope they want the knots made. i.e. knot 1 between Billy and Johnny. etc.

Now set them a time limit (15 mins normally works) and sit back and watch the chaos!
Now tell them to make the knots shown on the shoelace at the locations you nominate without taking their hands off or along the rope!

For Staff - You must marshal this exercise carefully, preferably with more than 1 person to make sure that no-one lets go of the rope or slides it through their hands

When finished - Debrief on how they tackled this, i.e. did they split into sub groups, 1 to tackle each knot?
In the leaderless version of this, does each knot get created in a different way?
In the leader led version, does information flow between the team? a good example is if they still all stand in a straight line, or do they move into a circle/huddle to talk to each other (no-one said they couldn't move around! - just keep holding that rope).
