The Secret Life Of Best Wireless Headphones
The Best Wireless Headphones

Wireless headphones let you listen to podcasts or music while on the move, without being tied to your device. The most effective headphones use Bluetooth or a different wireless protocol to connect to your laptop, phone or record player, and play your music.

They also have a powerful active noise cancellation system that reduces the low rumble of bus engines or chatty coworkers. They're also extremely comfortable to wear for long periods.

1. Sony WH-1000XM5

The WH1000XM5s are Sony's top-of-the-line headphones. They're a major improvement over the XM4s, with better noise cancellation and smart features. They're also a bit more expensive, but they offer an elegant design and feel. They have a lot to offer, and they're a great option for frequent travellers.

The new headphones are made of recycled plastic and feature an elegant, minimalist design. The headphones are also lighter than previous models. They're comfortable to wear for long periods, and the headband is now covered in soft padding that makes it less rigid than it was before. The Earcups are also smaller and fit more closely to the ear canals for less sound leakage.

The headphones come with an automatic adaptive ANC that is able to alter the volume based on the surrounding. The ANC isn't able to block as much low frequency noise as the Bose QuietComfort 45 Wireless or QC45 however it works well to reduce mid and high frequency noises, such as plane engine roar and office chatter.

Wearing Detection is another feature that detects when you remove your headphones and automatically pauses the music. It then resumes playing once you put them on again. Speak-to-Chat lets you communicate with someone without removing your headphones. It works surprisingly well however it's not a perfect solution and will sometimes change back to audio playback after you're done talking.

The DSEE HX Extreme Audio Processing Engine from Sony is also included. It upscales compressed music to provide it with more clarity and depth. It's not a feature that you'll see in your daily use, but it can be noticeable when listening to high-resolution tracks.

These headphones are compatible Bluetooth 5.0 which allows for higher bitrate streaming than other headsets. This will enhance their performance when you play music on your mobile phone, laptop, or tablet. They also support multipoint connection so you can pair with two devices simultaneously. This is especially helpful when you are looking to listen to music while using the device for hands-free phone calls.

2. Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless

Sennheiser MOMENTUM Wireless headphones aren't the most unique however that doesn't mean they're not a good pair. These headphones are incredibly comfortable and offer noise cancellation, and boast an impressive 60 hours of battery. over-ear headphones wireless is more than double the time of most competitors with the Sony WH-1000XM5 as well as the Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless providing 30 to 40 hours on a charge. The MOMENTUM 4's incredible endurance is due to a variety of power-saving features, including sleep and on-head detection.

Sennheiser headphones are among the best Bluetooth headsets available. They feature a symbiotic combination of strong bass and warm mids, which never overwhelm one another. The high-end is clear and not harsh. Its clarity allows it to handle the most explosive action movie soundtracks. The Control app lets you alter the sound profile and also add an EQ. This makes it easy to adjust the headphones to fit your preferences.

As compared to the wired version the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless are slightly less durable, yet feel sturdy and well-constructed. The ear pads of the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless are soft and supple and sit comfortably on the head. In fact, I had no problem wearing them all day of working from home or while on a plane. They're not as ideal for workouts however, because they can slide off the ears when you move your head swiftly.

The MOMENTUM 4 offers excellent ANC performance, but not quite as good as the Sony WH-1000XM5. They cut out low rumble from bus and plane engines, but don't really do a an excellent job of eliminating chattering between passengers or other ambient noise. They have the additional benefit of aptX support which provides higher bitrates than AAC and SBC.

The ear cups on the Sennheisers can pivot to lay flat, but don't fold like some other models. The headphones are compact enough to fit inside their hard carrying case, making them perfect for travel and commute.

3. Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2

The new generation of Bowers & Wilkins' flagship wireless headphones are among the top over-ear noise cancelling headsets available. They compete with Sony's WH1000XM5 or Bose QuietComfort 65. They have top-quality build quality, outstanding sound quality, and comfort. Unlike many premium Bluetooth headsets, they do not have a variety of fancy features or touch-based gesture controls they are instead designed to provide an audio experience that is as immersive and satisfying as is possible.

The Px7's S2's ANC is efficient in reducing background noise. It can be effectively isolated from low-frequency sounds, such as bus engines and plane engines and mid-range sounds like high-pitched laptop fans. The ANC of the Px7 S2 is less effectively from higher frequency sounds like traffic and conversation, but does a better job. Bowers & Wilkins' app allows you to alter your ANC to your hearing.

The headphones sport a classy look, with the headband and ear cup. The headphones are a bit heavier than other top noise cancelling headphones however they're worth the investment because of their sturdy design and a thoughtful build. They're comfortable when you listen to music for extended time periods and are suitable for use at home, at work or even on long flights.

When it comes to audio, the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2's 40mm dynamic drivers deliver strong bass, crisp highs, and expansive, detailed images. They deliver a dynamic and full sound, with a noticeable air between the sound elements. This makes them a great choice for music and podcasts. They come with aptX Adaptive codec that means you can stream hi-res audio with a low latency.

The Px7 S2's controls are simple to operate, featuring an pause/play button and the volume buttons on the right earcup. The buttons are comfortable and the texture adds to the premium feel of these headphones. They're stable over-ears that won't fall off your head, and they fold up into a small carrying case for easy transportation.

4. V-Moda S-80

Generally, you get what you pay for when it comes to headphones however, the V-Moda S-80 are an exception. They are among the best-looking wireless headphones and have a sleek sturdy design. Unfortunately, they cost about the same as the Sony WH-1000XM5 or Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2 -- which is a significant amount of money for a pair of on-ear headphones.

The V-Moda S-80 are the brand's first wireless-only headphones and they're designed to be used either on your head or as a personal speaker system (with the earcups facing forward when they're hung around your neck). They're tuned for a vibrant sound that enhances contemporary electronic music and support advanced audio codecs such as Qualcomm's aptX HD. They come with interchangeable magnet shields and customizable colors, allowing you to make your headphones unique in style that matches your outfit.

The S-80 is a nice departure from the M-Series, but they have a few flaws that make them unsuitable for everyone. Their weight of 12.5 ounces makes them feel heavy on the head, especially when worn over-ear. This puts pressure on your ears, causing ear pain after about an hour of use. The headband can also be stiff and uncomfortable when worn around your neck.

Another issue is the S80's poor noise cancellation. Even at moderate volumes there is significant background noise. The absence of ANC is not an issue but you'll need to limit the amount of time you listen for about 20 hours.

The S-80 does not have a 3.5mm connector, which restricts connectivity and may make it unsuitable for intense physical exercise. They're not foldable and don't come with a case which reduces portability and stowability. However, the S-80's rugged construction and excellent sound quality help to offset the limitations. They also come with a two-year warranty and an Immortal Life Program guarantee that provides a replacement pair for 50% of their retail value if they break, get a scratch, or otherwise lose value.
