Silkeborg's handball team is part of the Danish Handball League. The team, named Bjerringbro-Silkeborg Handbold, has been in existence since 2005. They currently sit on fifth place on the league table. They average 26.3 goals per game.

Silkeborg is home to a variety of lakes and waterways making it a popular destination for sailing, boating, and hiking. It is easily accessible by train or the Hjejlen paddle-steamer.
