What Does Death Teach Our Children?
Most of us are 'not' living, but in fact, we are dying daily. This is true both in Physical and Psychological senses. In Physical sense, we die daily because, daily thousands of cells die.

Take a moment to tally up the debts and bills you have to pay each month to keep your family in a home, clothed, well fed and the like. The numbers can be pretty scary. Now take a moment to think about how those bills would be paid if you passed away today. Perhaps you are hit by a drunk driver. Perhaps you have a massive heart attack, the number one killer in America these days. The actually cause doesn't really matter. It is what comes after your death that really hammers your family.

Many of the office stores such as Staples, OfficeMax, Office Depot and even Kinkos provide what is called color copies. Most of them have high quality color copiers that cost nearly a hundred thousand dollars. In other words they have to sell color printing at a fraction in order to pay for the machine itself. As of this writing Staples sells color copies for just.49 cents as well as their competitors. Some Kinkos will honor the funeral obituary program and give you a discount on the color printing. Just ask for it!

Have you ever had a colonoscopy? I have. I'm not sure what they injected me with, but I can tell you unequivocally that the minute that drug hit my bloodstream I was gone. I didn't feel a thing. Surgeons do horrible things to people every day, but the patients are oblivious to it all. They may wake up in pain, they may be sore for weeks afterward, but while the surgeon was carving them up, they felt nothing. NOTHING!

My relationship waned for two reasons: apathy and fear. The apathy was inexcusable, born from that arrogance of early adulthood where everything I was doing was too important to reschedule in order to take the time to travel to visit her. Heck, that apathy started in college, even before my grandfather died.

At this age, they do not need long, drawn out discussions. Give them a simple, brief explanation based on their age, remembering that their attention spans are not that long. Too much information can confuse them or will be so much that they tune out and do not understand what you are saying.

I choose to overcome my instinctive fear of the unknown. All humans naturally fear the unknown. I will fight that fear every day - and I will win. In winning my battle with fear, I win my freedom and my happiness.
