'Mum, Dad, I'm fine!' said Colin
'Ok mate, we were just a bit worried,' replied Dad.
Luke was so amazed to see Colin. He told him about the nurse sometimes would play catch with him and that would cheer him up. Colin was amazed at the food Luke got! Every so often the nurse would come in with a huge tray and Luke would get to pick what ever he wants!
' Hey Luke,' said Colin. 'I've got something for you'
'What what what?!' said Luke, joyfully.
'You'll see later,' replied Colin.
After having a long talk about how London was with Aunty Iris and Uncle Bob, Colin was surprised that his mum and dad were ok with it. Colin was glad that he wasn't going to get told off! Luke was laughing when Colin told them that Alistair cut his finger. Colin didn't really know why Luke found it so funny!
Colin loved being back with his family and wondered sometimes what Uncle Bob and Aunty Iris were doing because technically they thought that he was still playing a game of cricket! Luke was still feeling ok and mum and dad didn't leave his side ever, neither did Colin though, because he knew that at any time Luke could basically die.
One day, a doctor was checking on Luke, because he was asleep, so was checking his heart rate and said to Colin that Luke had a 1% chance of survival. That's weird, Colin thought, because the doctor in London told Colin that he had a 0% chance. Colin thought that maybe the doctor in London didn't want Colin to feel as if Luke could actually survive. Maybe he thought that if Luke died then I would have been more sad if I was told that he could have survived.
Luke was getting worse and worse. He kept throwing up. Luckily, Colin's daggy school shoes worked quite well as a sick 'bowl' until there was an actual bowl that Luke could vomit in. It reminded Colin of Griff, when he was really pale and weak, because that's exactly what Luke was like that night.
He was getting worse by the day. Him being sick was almost a regular thing, but one night, it was really bad. So bad that Colin, mum, and dad wasn't allowed to see him for a whole day. Doctors crowded him, life-support machines were beeping and matrons were shouting.
That was it, Colin thought. Tears ran down his face. Combined, Colin and his parents cried for hours. There he lay. Connected to the life-support machine which just had a line. A straight line in it. Colin sat there every night and told him about when him and Alistair nearly broke into Buckingham Palace. No response. He told him a new story every night but never got a response.
Suddenly, the life-support machine started beeping. The doctors antibiotics must have worked. Every night the doctors would give him a special antibiotic which had failed on 99% of people. Luke was the 1%. The 1% that never gave up and despite having cancer, always had a smile on his face. Sure he was ill, but he wanted to survive, more than anyone. He battled so hard, so he deserved that 1%. He was an inspiration to not only to Colin, but to the world. Then, Colin thought that the doctors really didn't give up on Luke. He was wrong all along. The doctors did try hard. Even if they weren't recommended by the Queen, they were the best doctors in Colin's world.
