10 Strategies To Build Your Railroad Workers Empire
Union Pacific Houston Cancer - Is Creosote Still Affecting Houstonians?

For decades, residents of Houston's Fifth Ward have argued the company hasn't done enough to remove creosote in the underground air at its rail yard that is contaminated. The latest tests have shown that contamination could still be impacting residents living near.

Researchers believe it's due to the high incidence of cancers in the area. Two years into a health study conducted by the state the researchers found higher than anticipated rates of childhood leukemia and adult kidney and renal pelvis cancers within the communities around the Union Pacific site.

Creosote

Creosote which is a common chemical that is used to treat wood is also a typical one. It is also a harmful substance that can cause cancer in those exposed to it.

It is a heavy oily substance which is black or amber-colored and has a smoky smell and a burnt flavor. It is a distillation of coal product that has been used for more than 150 years as a wood preserver.

In the United States, it is used to treat railroad ties as well as other kinds of wood including fence posts, utility poles and marine pilings. It can also be used to shield log homes and other structures from rot and infestation.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that creosote can be a risky chemical. A short-term exposure could cause skin and eye irritation as well as chemical burns stomach discomfort burning of the mouth or throat and liver or kidney problems.

Long-term exposure can lead to skin and scrotum carcinomas. Workers who come into direct contact with it during wood treatment and other manufacturing processes are at risk.

According to the EPA It is a known human cancer-causing agent. It has been linked with a variety of different types of cancer such as esophageal or lung cancer.

Houston's Fifth Ward residents have been exposed for decades to creosote due to a former railroad yard that was close to their homes. They claim that the chemical has contaminated their homes, soil and continues to spread underground.

Harris County and Houston have joined forces in the fight against Union Pacific in federal court. They are requesting that the company tests regularly for contamination , and take steps to prevent the spread of the disease.

A group of Fifth Ward neighbors filed an action against Union Pacific in October of 2017. They claim that creosote from the former rail yard is contaminating soil under their homes and causing serious health problems.

They are seeking compensation from the railroad to help cover the costs of cleanup and other related costs. They claim they have suffered the effects of environmental racism and discrimination as well as other kinds of pollution that have affected their families as well as them.

Dioxin

Dioxins are chemicals which do not break down quickly in the environment and they can be found in the soil, air, or in sediment for a long period of. They can be found in diverse sources, including natural disasters, industrial accidents smoke from cigarettes and incineration of hazardous waste.

The health effects of dioxin are not clear at low levels, however there is evidence to suggest that they can cause cancer and other serious diseases. Higher levels of dioxin have been linked to increased risk of organ cancers, heart disease, immune problems, and endocrine issues such as hormonal imbalances. They can also trigger problems with hormones, immune suppression womenstrual issues, diabetes and weight loss.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency the most frequent way people are exposed to dioxin is through drinking or eating. They are not water-soluble or volatile, therefore they are more likely to be taken into the body via the consumption of meat, dairy products, fish or other seafood.

It is important to remember, however, that exposure to dioxins can affect your health based on a variety of aspects, such as the amount you consume, drink, and the frequency you breathe. It is also important to consider your age, gender as well as your diet, nutritional status and family traits and other health factors that could affect your risk of being affected by dioxins or not.

Furthermore, the kind of contaminant is another important aspect. According to the EPA there are some toxins that are more harmful than others to the health of humans. Polychlorinated Biphenyls, or PCBs are more likely than creosote to have a negative effect on your health.

For example, PCBs can damage a person's eyes, kidneys and liver. They can also affect a person's immune system and affect the development of healthy bones and teeth.

Houston's Fifth Ward and Kashmere Garden neighbors have complained for years of cluster of cancer deaths caused by the Union Pacific rail yard. The yard is located next to their homes. Friday's announcement by the city's health department stated that it found cancer-causing chemicals on samples of the surface near the rail yard. The announcement said that the results were not encouraging. Railroad Workers Cancer Lawsuit stated that he plans on suing Union Pacific over the matter and that a proposal submitted by Texas environmental regulators won't suffice.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are harmful chemicals that have been used in industrial and consumer products for over 60 years. These substances were banned in 1979 following being discovered to cause cancer, suppress the immune system, and impair learning.

PCBs can cause contamination of soil and water as well as air in many areas around the globe after they are released into the environment. They bind tightly to organic matter and are often persistent, meaning they are relatively easy to transport and build up in the environment.

As a result, PCBs are a major threat for the protection of public health and the environment. The EPA is adamant that they are a human carcinogen and has shown that they can cause cancer in lab animals.

Certain studies also show a link between PCBs to birth defects in children. This is particularly applicable to children who are exposed these chemicals while pregnant.

The primary route for exposure to PCBs is through food. Since they are the most abundant in PCBs, fish is the main source of exposure. However, PCBs can also be present in beef and dairy and other agricultural products.

Drinking and showering with PCB-contaminated water is another way to be exposed. This can happen from leaks or spills that can be caused by electrical or other equipment.

Additionally, Railroad Cancer Lawyer can be exposed to PCBs through breathing the air or by touching the skin. These chemicals can trigger an illness known as Chloracne. It is a small, pale, yellow-colored skin lesions that may last for several weeks to several years.

However the effects of PCBs on the human body are not completely understood. Some researchers have suggested that they could cause liver and biliary tract cancer in humans, but more studies are needed to determine how this affects us.

The EPA is also investigating whether these chemicals may cause birth defects in newborn babies. Low birth weight has been associated with insulin resistance or Type II diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease later in life. Two studies revealed that children with higher levels of PCBs in their cord blood were born with lower birth weights and/or older.

Lead

Lead is a toxic metal and is present in many products, including paints, pipes and food cans. It is absorbed into the body via two main routes: oral and respiratory.

It is a strong antioxidant and can react with other chemicals found in the environment. This can cause it to accumulate in the body , and could lead to serious health problems such as cancer and other ailments.

Houston residents who reside near the Union Pac Railroad's creosote facility are at a high risk of cancer. The city has requested the federal government to instruct the railroad to clean its toxic site.

Union Pacific Railroad has a history in which it has been a source of contamination for its Fifth Ward rail yard and Kashmere Garden neighborhood with chemicals that could cause cancer. The company has tried to clean up the contamination, but a plan presented to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is not enough residents say.

The plume of groundwater below homes in the affected area is one of the most dangerous effects of the contamination. A recent study conducted by health officials has shown that soil samples from the rail yard contain higher levels of creosote than that recommended for drinking water.

Another issue is that the creosote vapor is slowly escaping into the air. It is causing residents to breathe toxic levels of vapors, which can be fatal for both children as well as adults.

Cancer Lawsuit Settlements is also possible that particles are causing cancers among the residents who breathe the vapors in. A door-to-door health survey is currently being conducted in the area to learn more about how the vapors are impacting the lives of the residents.

This is a serious issue for the Fifth Ward communities and Kashmere Gardens. It's a pity and must be addressed immediately.

A Department of State Health Services study found that leukemia incidences were five times higher in children who lived in the Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens neighborhoods than was anticipated. The study also revealed that adult cancers were more common in the neighborhoods than they were elsewhere in Texas.
