Avanos Medical, FDA and the FDA have issued a Class 1 Recall of approximately 629 units of the CORTRAK*2 Ental Access System. Cortrak 2 eternal access system This feeding tube positioning device has been associated with numerous injuries and deaths.
Avanos Medical feeding tube Avanos Medical feeding tube The devices for recall were released beginning on April 1 from 2016 to January 1, 2022. They're used to assist healthcare professionals place feeding tubes into the stomach or intestines of patients.
Avanos Medical feeding tube The incorrect placement of the nasogastric tube and Nasoenteric tube is the reason for 23 deaths and 60 injuries since the year 2015.
The recall is used to modify the label of the device in order to instruct users to verify that the tube is correctly placed before delivering nutrition.
"Adverse instances reported were respiratory failure and pneumothorax (collapsed lung), perforation (a hole in the lung's wall or esophagus or bowel) and pneumonia (a lung infection), and the pleural effusion (excess fluid that is leaking from the lung space and chest cavity)," according to the FDA.
