Avanos Medical and the FDA have issued a Class 1 recall for about 629 units of CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System, a feeding tube placement device that is linked to dozens of accidents and deaths.

They are used to help healthcare professionals to insert feeding tubes into the stomach or the intestines of patients.
Avanos Medical Nasogastric tubes or Nasoenteric tubes that were not properly placed have led to more than 60 injuries and 23 deaths incidents since 2015.
This recall is utilized to rectify the label on the device in order to remind users to ensure that the tube was properly set before they can provide the food.
According to FDA adverse events, they include respiratory failure as well as pneumothorax (collapsed lung tissue) and perforation, a hole in the wall or bowel of the lung], pneumonia (a lung infection) and Pleural effusion (excess liquid in the lung space and the chest cavity).
