There have been many reports of patients suffering injuries and even deaths resulting from misalignment or misplacement of nasogastric or the nasoenteric tubes. These devices are employed to assist in the placement of their tubes.
This recall can be used to change the labeling of the device, which includes the usage instructions and the intended use. Cortrak 2 eternal access system The users are advised to confirm that the tube has been placed according to the protocols of their institution before using it to deliver nutrition.
Incorrectly inserting a Nasogastric or Nasoenteric tube could cause damage to the vocal chords, lungs , or trachea. This could lead to serious injury and even death.
Avanos Medical has issued a recall notification stating that, since 2015, there has been sixty deaths and 23 injuries resulting from an incorrect placement of the nasogastric feeding tube. Avanos Medical There were a variety of adverse events, including respiratory failure pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) and perforation (a gap or opening in the wall of the esophagus or bowel), pneumonia, and pleural effusion (excess liquid that has accumulated in the space between your lungs and your chest cavity).
Avanos Medical issued a correction notice to those who purchased these devices between January 2021 through January 2022 on the 21st of March, 2022. The following instructions were contained in the notification:
Use nasogastric or Nasoenteric tubs according to institution policies.
Attach the updated notice in the field regarding the issue to the operator's guide.
