Each scene masterfully utilizes the claustrophobic domestic environment its story unfolds within, leading to set-pieces with various cooking tools that'll have you shuddering at the sight of your cheese-grater every time you open the kitchen drawer. Be prepared for your steps to rise within the days following the first time you've seen the film: a truly gruesome scene trapping viewers inside an elevator, accompanied by an unidentified demon who snatching earring from your hand means you'll likely be climbing steps for the rest of your life.

The character development of the characters in Evil Dead Rise can be described as at par with the best in the series and most memorable characters, with Beth and Ellie each battling their own personal demons long before the actual demons appear. However, this isn't the only attraction of this series and Cronin recognizes that. This honor is ascribed to the Deadites, the movie's hideous, shit-talking ghouls, who are magnificently mischievous and malevolent here.


Evil, you see does not just appear in this film, no matter what the title might promise. Instead, it teases and torments. It disfigures and decapitates. It crawls under the skin of movie's characters as well as the audience and then eats them like molars rubbing glass and spits you out in a bloody mess.

Does the film look perfect? Not quite. Stories are usually identifiable from a mile away- it's how it happens instead of what happens that propels the screenplay of Cronin. the film's one-apartment setting arguably isn't as helpful as it assists in making sure the tension is high but leaving the movie feeling small in scale after the fact.
