Accepting death as an inevitability is easier than you may think. After all, who doesn't realize they are eventually going to die? The problem lies in fully accepting death and in being comfortable in talking about dying with those we love. Approaching the sensitive issues surrounding death with family members and loved ones can be a loving way to help everyone prepare for the eventual death of a family member.
One good change is my sensitivity to other people. Though I have always been a sensitive person, I am more sensitive now. My daughter's death, her appointment of my husband and me as her children's guardians, and becoming a GRG (grandparent raising grandchildren) have given me many new writing topics. These are good changes. What about the not so good?

Maybe you have had to plan a funeral for a loved one in the past, then you would have an indication of what is involved in the planning process. If they had planned their own funeral then you would have been more at ease, knowing for sure what they wanted to include.
Make plans with the funeral home but be careful. This is a time of grief and not a good time to be negotiating spending money. Many funeral homes offer plans including services, transportation etc. These all come with a cost. Bring someone that is not emotionally tied to help you make some of these decisions.

These days it is even popular to use urns that resemble the ones used from hundreds of years ago. Now these are new of course but the style is the same. It seems like a nice way to honor your loved one to find the best urn for them if they have chosen to be cremated and you have decided to keep their ashes rather than scatter them. Also keep in mind just because you have your loved one cremated does not mean that you can't have a funeral. You absolutely can still have a funeral. Just speak with the funeral home of your choice and they will be happy to assist you with your funeral needs.
