Yoshitomo Nara Prints
Nara's child portraits have earned him a reputation for capturing a wide range of emotions. They range from rage and resistance to calm contemplation and peace. His signature style that celebrates the introspective spirit and the imagination of the mind, has seen his work exhibited across the world.


Yoshitomo Narada has a large followership. Narada is believed to be one the most influential contemporary Japanese artists in the 1990s. His work has been featured in museums and galleries all over Japan as well as the West.


Nara's drawings on canvas and paper are beautiful because they can portray both childlike innocence and frightening devilishness through the portrayal of characters and animals. Although he has been compared to Keith Haring often, his style is more traditional than that of Haring's style. Yoshitomonara .


His work is heavily influenced by popular music, childhood memories and current events, that are then filtered through a mystical realm of feelings, loneliness and rebelliousness that encompasses personal and cultural sensibilities.


His work is included in numerous collections of museums and he has held more than 40 solo exhibitions.


Although he worked with a variety of media, his best artistic contribution was his paintings. Through the layering of colors and the erasure of colors the paintings create a sense of a moving presence between the subject and the ground.


Through his entire career, Nara has drawn inspiration from a myriad of sources like picture books, fairy stories, American comic books, Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons as well as punk and rock music. The influence from these sources is evident in the way Nara's work is created and displayed.


His artwork can be seen on everything from T-shirts toys to ashtrays and CD jackets. His work is widely popular, and collectors who are serious as and critics are constantly seeking out the mysterious characters.


Nara explores a variety of other styles, including photography and installations. These pieces are primarily abstract but they often include elements from his more traditional figurative paintings.



The combination of these two styles is a distinct and interesting one that has led Nara to be recognized internationally as a modern artist. Nara's work has been displayed in a variety of institutions, and it is currently featured by the Dallas Museum of Art as part of their permanent collection.


He's also incredibly connected to music, and has been inspired in part by the anti-establishment beliefs of Western rock. He began listening to music when he was a young age and it was through this experience that found his love for the arts.


He was a graduate of the Aichi University of the Arts in 1988. Following graduation, he attended the highly regarded Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, Germany. He was supervised by A.R., a German painter. Penck who was mentor that was instrumental in helping Nara discover her distinctive style of painting.
