What are the Driving Forces of Globalisation?

-Improvements in Transportation
The great advances in technology has drastically reduced the time takes to travel from one place to another.
eg. commercial jet aircraft, large ocean-going vessels and containerisation of the 20th century

Buildings of well-organised transportation networks and infrastructure
eg. airports and highways to support these advances in transportation

As a result, shorter time required for travel and greater ease of transporting people and goods.
Increases the mobility of people and goods from one place to another.

-Improvements in Communication
Improved communication has transformed the way people communicate and how business are conducted.
eg. use of technology and optical fibre systems allow huge amount of information to be transmitted at a very high speed.
internet allow consumers to have convenient and efficient access to the latest products and services worldwide.
use of electronic mail allows greater coordination and control over global activities easily.

As a result, people and business now enjoy almost instantaneous and more convenient communications with others in different locations.
This will result in the process, ideas and activites in different parts of the world to become interconnected and intergrated.
Furthermore, advances in the communication technology allows TNCs to coordinate and control their worldwide activities easily and more efficiently, allowing more people, their ideas and activites to become integrated and interconnected.

TNCs are global firms that operate in a number of countries outside the country of their origin.
TNCs establish operations in different locations around the world to;
Access new markets
enjoy lower costs of production
TNCs have worldwide operations that are coordinated and controlled by the headquarters which are located in the country of origin.

As a result, this has led to economics becoming more integrated as people and their activites become integrated as people and their activites become interconnected with TNCs setting up companies in other parts of the world and linking them to the company of the origin country.
