Building Your Own MEDICAL Kit
Why do we need an initial aid kit to begin with?

http://warebuilt.com/members/garlicage2/activity/659879/ of an initial aid kit is to have sufficient medical stores so that in case of an accident, a certified first aider will be able to utilize them to assess correctly, and render appropriate medical treatment to the casualty until the casualty is transported to a higher medical facility.

Getting Started

Before starting, you should use the following three questions to assist you decide the items to be placed in your custom-made first aid kit:

1. What's the working environment?

2. Are medical stores easily available?

3. Do you know the injuries to expect?

Below is a set of suggested items for an over-all first aid kit, that ought to be sufficient to take care of around 20 light-wounded casualties. However, discretion must be made by the reader to whether it is enough for the target population and really should there be any subtraction or addition to the things listed.

It is strongly advised that irregardless of the surroundings, the principal and secondary dressings should not be altered too much because they are useful in many situations.

Checklist Of AN OVER-ALL First Aid Kit

Primary Dressings

30 Alcohol swabs (Disinfecting)
20 bits of plasters (Adhesive bandage)
5 bits of 10cm x 10cm Melolin (Non-Adhesive Bandage)
5 cotton gauzes in a sterile container

Secondary Dressings

6 packs of triangular bandage
4 First Aid Dressing
2 Shell Dressing
2 Burn dressing
2 Crepe bandage
1 tube of chlorohexidine cream (Antiseptic cream)
1 small bottle of sodium chloride
1 couple of safety pins

Others

2 pairs of sterile latex disposable gloves
1 pair of scissors
1 roll of transpore tape (Transparent)
1 thermometer with sufficient thermometer sheaths
1 Hand Sanitizer
1 notebook with pen
1 torchlight

Tablets/Creams (Add at your own risk)

20 Lozenges (Sore Throat)
20 Paracetamol tablets (Pain, fever)
20 Charcoal (Diarrhoea)
1 Miconazole Nitrate cream/powder (Treatment of foot rot)
1 Calamine Lotion (Skin Rash)

Other Important Guidelines

To make the medical box more user-friendly, do use coloured labels to classify the things accordingly. For instance, one could divide the box accordingly into four sections (Primary Dressings, Secondary Dressings, Tablets/Creams, Others) and place the things accordingly.
Since there are many items in the first aid kit, pack each item into individual transparent airtight bags. This not merely helps to maintain sterility, but also makes it easy for anybody to identify one item from another.
Do have the habit of pasting a checklist within the initial aid box itself, and coat it with a film of plastic to safeguard it from wear and tear. This can allow anyone utilizing the box to learn at one glance what the medical supplies available are.
Every month, remember to do a stock check of the medical supplies in the initial aid box. Take note of the expiry dates on the things (e.g. Alcohol swabs, cotton balls etc.) and prepare to top up the first aid box in case a particular item is near its expiry date. This will ensure the initial aid box is well-prepared at all times.
If possible, do take note of your co-workers' allergies and then record it down. That is to ensure that patients would not be treated with medicine they are allergic to.
Only use medical stores that the first aider is familiar with. For instance, if the first aider does not understand how to set a drip, putting a 16G IV needle in the initial aid kit will only confuse him.

Hopefully, these tips will be able to help you make your own first aid kit. If you wish to add more items, do visit your neighbourhood pharmacy so as to get more medical advice.
