There are loads of reasons that the Fast and Furious series has gone on to become one of the largest film franchises of all time however one of the most important is the ever-growing and stellar cast. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster may not have been household names back in 2001, but after the first film and their big comeback to the series with the fourth installment the 2009 film Fast & Furious, their star power exploded as the Fast franchise began to draw some of the biggest name actors in the industry.
Fast Five gave us Dwayne Johnson in the role of Luke Hobbs. Jason Statham stepped in full force in Fast & Furious 6 as Deckard Shaw. Furious 7 added Kurt Russell. We got additional Hollywood stars with The Fate of the Furious when Helen Mirren joined the cast as Magdalene Shaw, and Charlize Theron stepped in as Cipher. F9 also introduced John Cena's Jakob Toretto, and now in Fast X, we're also receiving Alan Ritchson, Brie Larson as well as Rita Moreno.
Did I miss one of the most important additions there? As the cast of Fast heroes expands and grows and grows, it will become increasingly difficult for the directors to come up with an antagonistic force that can match their. Who is the best of them all? Dom, Letty, Mia, Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Han (Sung Kang), Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) and anyone else who winds up fighting for Family? It's hard to find actors out that can instill such confidence, without even seeing the film and, if they do, Jason Momoa is indeed one of them.
Momoa joins the Fast X cast as the main villain, Dante Reyes. Turns out, Dante really is the child of Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida) who was a corrupt politician and drug lord who was killed in Fast Five. Twelve years after, Dante wants revenge.
What exactly can we anticipate in momoa's Dante in Fast X? What will he bring to the franchise that makes him a standout new addition to an ever-growing cast? Michelle Rodriguez offered up a quite exciting teaser on an episode of Collider Ladies Night in celebration of the release of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Here's what she had to say:
Do you think that "the most male villain" along with Theron's "different kind of monster" will team up for Fast X? There's been no confirmation however, if Cipher will be in the new movie and Theron is in the film, it's likely that we'll get quite the villain team-up to carry us through the Fast X, and maybe even the 11th film in the series as well.
Fast X marks the beginning of the conclusion of the Fast story. While the movie will not be the final episode The cast and crew have been open that it could be a the conclusion of the story.
After 22 years of television and after 22 years on the screen, we are all preparing to say goodbye.
"That's the appeal of being close to the end of the franchise: I don't have to think, 'Oh, the characters are going to remain for ever,'" director Louis Leterrier is featured in Total Film magazine(opens in new tab) in the latest issue with the film as the front cover. "No. They might not, because it's the last day of the year. Only in westerns do cowboys run off in the sunset. This is definitely different. It gave me the opportunity to raise the stakes higher than they had been before."
And while Leterrier hasn't ruled out a long-foreshadowed return appearance to Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner outside of the film's flashback footage from Fast Five, star Vin Diesel does not rule out the possibility of an on-screen reunion through digital doubles or similar face replacement technology used in Fast 7 for the final Fast installment.
The series is racing towards the finish line, Diesel is confident that what they have planned for that final, nitro-fueled race will deliver on sky-high audience expectations. And we're not just talking about flying automobiles. "I've spent much of Fast X stream listening to my ear on the ground and getting an understanding of what true fans have desired and what their opinions are. And also, the 50,000 feet perspective of how a story will end with respect and dignity. Everything has led us to where we are today."
"I will say that you should consider where we are today in the world today, where technology is moving so fast we don't take a second to think about the the implications of how the future could be impacted by it, and imagine what the Toretto philosophy could include," he adds. "If you think of the car as an expression of freedom, the antithesis of this is AI and driverless cars. Somewhere in there will lie the opposing concepts, the ideologies that will be at war in this final."
