The FDA has identified Avanos Medical's recall of its Cortrak*2 access system for enteral use. 629 devices manufactured between 2016 until 2022 were recalls, the first recall taking place on the 21st of March.

This device is utilized for helping to place the tubes. When you are not careful, inserting a nasogastric tube or nasoenteric one can cause serious injury or even death.
feeding tube placement According to Avanos Safety communications, there were 60 injuries and 23 deaths related to this issue. Pneumothorax and pneumothorax (perforation) and pneumonia and pleural effusion have all been listed as adverse events.
Cortrak*2 will use this recall to update the instructions for its usage and intended use. The users will have to verify the location of tubes based on institutional protocols, before they are able to deliver nutritional supplements.
Clinicians were also asked to attach the notice of correction regarding the issue to the operating book and return acknowledgment forms along with the note to Avanos. Avanos Medical Cortrak 2 eternal access system The company aims to soon give users an updated labeling, including confirmation of the placement of tubes in accordance with the institution's policies prior to the use.
