Minetest 5.5.0 is now available. This version includes a switch from Irrlicht to Minetest's own fork of IrrlichtMt, which has special enhancements for Minetest. What is Minetest? It's an open-source game engine using voxels, which can be modified into many different games - such as Minecraft.
In addition to the rendering technology evolving, there are many other changes. Here's some highlights:
- Improved TTF font support Touch UI support for desktop builds - Joystick sensitivity to player movement - Links that can be clicked in chat, but disabled by default - Normal texture support (for minimap shading) Animations are paused while game is paused . - Modpacks that contain modpacks are properly handled in the content downloader - Lots of new additions for modders - Performance enhancements and bug fixes - Add a button to switch the display boundaries for map blocks (F8 by default)
