The alchemist raises his eyes fearfully. Their eyes lock, and the alchemist stretches out a trembling hand. Death grasps his hand and sighs as she looks skywards. His face turns ashen, and he shudders before growing rigid. The hand Death holds slowly crumbles to ash and slips through her emaciated fingers. A heap of ashes lies at Death's feet, and some of the ashes are carried off in the wind.

Death is a mystery. More mysterious is the question where do the dead go? Is there a life after death? What do us, living humans know about death? Is there such a place where life goes on after death in a totally different realm? Death is the end of a physical, material existence. There is a popular belief that at death, the dying person sees a playback of his /her life - success, failure, mistakes, relationships, a total sum of what their life was all about.

When a man finds his wife with another man (or a woman finds her husband with another woman) and kills them both in a fit of rage, he or she is acting on rage alone. No amount of logic or persuasion is going to deter that murder. That person isn't thinking about prison or the death penalty or anything else. Only after the fact will that person think at all. In that case, the death penalty is not a deterrent.

Make peace with your final words through your message and tell all about your vision and purpose of good intentions. Say what you have to say to whomever regarding whatever.

Death glances back at the wide swath of ashes that marks her path through the forest. She raises her hands to the skies and shouts an incantation. A single tear glistens on her cheek before the lightning strikes. And then she's gone.
