很多年轻人踏入社会后，对“报税” (Income Tax) 这两个字懵懵懂懂。有些人不知道什么时候要报税、有些人害怕报税、有些人不知道如何报税。不过，报税不等于纳税。
其实，一般上，在马来西亚内赚取的收入都需要报税。这收入包括，自雇或被雇人士靠工作赚取的酬劳，包括了薪水和佣金。我们把这些税 (cukai) 交给内陆税收局 (LHDNM – Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia)。
以下是大马个人所得税需知或常见问题 Income Tax FAQ。
1.报税和纳税有什么不同？
报税是向纳税局呈报自己所赚取的收入；纳税则是当一个人的收入高于政府所规定的数额，而必须缴付给政府的税。
2. 为什么要报税？
报税记录可以为个人建立一个良好的“信誉”。这所谓的“信誉”可以帮助我们在将来向银行房屋贷款 (home loan)、汽车贷款 (car loan)、个人贷款 (personal loan)、或任何融资时，让银行对我们信服，让我们的贷款可以比较容易得到批准。
3. 何时开始纳税？
2010 年以前，当一个人在马来西亚工作（个人），年收入(Yearly Income) RM 25501 或月收入(Monthly Income) RM 2125 或以上，就得纳税。
2010 年开始，当一个人在马来西亚工作（个人），年收入(Yearly Income) RM 26501 或月收入(Monthly Income) RM 2208 或以上，就得纳税。
2013 年开始，当一个人在马来西亚工作（个人），年收入(Yearly Income) RM 30667 或月收入(Monthly Income) RM 2556 或以上，就得纳税。
4. 什么时候纳税？
受雇人士 (individuals without business source): 每年4月30日或之前
自雇人士 (individuals with business source): 每年6月30日或之前
