Wrongful Death And The Defendant
I was listening to the oldies station the other day and the song, American Pie by Don McLean came on. I was alone in my car, so I belted out the lyrics "drove my Chevy to the levy, but the levy was dry" with abandon. It made me think of the first time I heard the song in 1971. My boyfriend (later my husband and eventually my ex husband) and I were driving my car to the Salt River. Somehow singing "Drove my Dodge to the river, but the river's not dry" just didn't have the same pizzaz. But I digress.
One good change is my sensitivity to other people. Though I have always been a sensitive person, I am more sensitive now. My daughter's death, her appointment of my husband and me as her children's guardians, and becoming a GRG (grandparent raising grandchildren) have given me many new writing topics. These are good changes. What about the not so good?

The me I was died in October of 1987. You know what, despite all that happened on my journey from then to now; it's not bad that the me I was passed away. Oh that me was a good person. I worked hard in my job. I was truthful; a good friend to my friends and tried to do the right things in my life. I worshiped my Father God on Sundays and even talked to Him a lot in prayer in my everyday life. But I really didn't "get it".

Some writers refer to a realm, the borderland, found at the outer edge of the mental realms, where all the material aspect of life is manifest in its purest state. It is believed that the soul who gets here in this realm is definitely aware of a change, or awakening. Senses are sharper and more sensitive. The soul/spirit finds its true being. In this realm, one feels like one just emerged from a hazy daze. The surroundings are familiar- places, faces of people you've known who passed on before you, some unknown souls who may have shared some connection on earth.
If you are placing a banner on the piece it should state your relationship to the deceased. Customary banners are 'beloved Mother', 'Dearest Friend' etc. Many times a florist does not offer this as it is not something that they charge for and it costs them money. It will make the sympathy flowers you are sending look special so you should consider if it is appropriate for you.
You may need to get some old 8mm, 16mm or super 8 film converted into a digital form so you can add a clip of that to your funeral slideshow. But here's a hint: don't just go for the cheapest. Some converters don't even look at what they are doing with your priceless old film and the final result can be very dark, or very light, or it may have horrible ragged black edges.
However, although this is the reality in life, the last thing that we want to happen is having a bad kind of funeral service. As much as possible we want a grand one, one that will not only impress our own corpse but also the people whom we love. However, considering the prices that our goods are having these days, it is not impossible that we will end up in the most affordable coffin. If you do not want this to happen, better think practical. Get funeral insurance!

The Gathering. This precious time was limited to family and closest friends. It was held in an informal setting arranged at the funeral home to share more stories and memories about Mom. It was a time of celebration for the special person she was to each of us.
