When my wife's mother, "Grandma G," died, she left us many gifts and intangibles. She also left us something very tangible, that in the immediate hour of need, was her most thoughtful gift. She had prearranged and paid for her funeral in exacting detail. This single act, greatly lowered the magnitude of stress that her death had caused.

Some of us are afraid of death. It is human nature to cling on to life. Medical breakthrough makes it possible to prolong life. There are many cases where such measures are futile, the physical body becomes a prison. Yet- no one knows when the Grim Reaper will come calling. Life does have its ups and downs. Torment can plague a person in its very core. When it is too much to bear, a person commits suicide. Accidents have claimed many lives. death is a road to one destination for all of mankind. What awaits us in that realm?

The more information you have to start with the easier it is. If you know someone who has knowledge of the person you are looking for then you can find out if someone is dead by simply asking your mutual friend. Knowing where the person lived can narrow your search down considerably and in the unlikely event that you know the persons social security number then finding them should be easy.

If you consider the distance between human and the divinity of God; this is sacrifice. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He humbled Himself to a lowly creature such as man that is not even worth the dirt. "But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).


The Vikings (1958-Not Rated) stars Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis as two brawling Viking half-brothers. This grand costume drama ended with the Viking funeral that became idealized in popular culture. "Prepare a funeral for a Viking," Tony Curtis intones after the mano-a-mano fight that leaves Kirk Douglas dead.



Maybe you have had to plan a funeral for a loved one in the past, then you would have an indication of what is involved in the planning process. If they had planned their own funeral then you would have been more at ease, knowing for sure what they wanted to include.

Since we don't know whether our own demise will be lengthy or sudden, let's think about the peace that we want our loved ones to be left with. Let us love more each day. Let us pay it forward at every opportunity. Let us take more time for family and friends. Let us see more positive than negative in people and in situations. Let us put down the cell phone for a moment to appreciate what we see and hear. Death is inevitable, but the peace we leave is eternal.
