Kid Laroi Merchandise is experimenting with new ways to earn money. The agency is selling t-shirts umbrellas, umbrellas and other merchandise that's decorated with train maps and the Metro logo.
The Metro Center's M Shop opened on February 26th, and has been able to sell a lot of merchandise branded by the company. The design team in-house at Metro Center designs the WMATA products. Paul Wiedefeld, general manager says that it has T-shirts and mugs aswell as magnets, train models as well as "foggy bottom" bottoms.
Apart from in addition to the M Shop, the transit agency also sells branded merchandise through its Metro Cash & Carry stores as well as through its online store. The agency receives royalties from those items and sells them for a lower price than it could at a traditional store.
SmarTrip Pass discount coupons are another aspect of the agency's merchandise strategy. The agency will offer seniors discounted tickets, or bulk SmarTrip cards for groups.
Alongside the M Shop, the agency sells t-shirts, umbrellas, as well as totes at its usual locations in the heart of downtown DC. T-shirts featuring the Metro map are available in sizes ranging from small to extra large.
The cost of these t-shirts ranges from $20 to $40, and are manufactured by Nike and Adidas. There are numerous shades to pick from.
Metro is hoping to take advantage of its position as a nationally recognized brand, and its connection with the Washington Post to sell t-shirts to riders. While Metro's merchandising sales isn't a major source of income for the organization they hope to make use of the opportunity to advertise its services and programs. In addition to t-shirts the agency is offering "foggy bottom" bottoms as well as other equipment which is decorated with train maps.
