PEN15 is all nostalgia. The show's best moments are those that take a look back to the good times. As they make their way through seventh grade, the 10-episode debut season follows Anna and Maya, their best friends with an unbreakable bond.
The show's success is due to the care taken by Maya Erskine (co-creator) and Anna Konkle (both adults playing seven-grade versions of themselves, paired with real teenage actors to generate the laughs. One episode features a spectacularly choreographed dance routine in which Erskine plays the role a self-described witch, while her partner wears the pink thong.
PEN15's most memorable episodes feature the show's closest friends in the toughest of situations. This is not surprising considering the cast and crew which include Sam Zvibleman, the series' main villain. One of the most memorable scenes is when Maya, a biracial girl, is made into Scary Spice as part of a group project.
It's the characters and the script that really matter, but the funny part is the magnets. There are PEN15 merch , if slightly cheesy moments.
PEN15 may be a cheesy comedy, but its hysterical and cringe-worthy moments make it worth the effort. It is a reminder of how joy can be found even in the most mundane situations. It also reminds us that not all pranks are clever. Sometimes, the best pranks can have the greatest potential for repercussions.
